Tippmann 98 all the way. Tippmann has so much better quality than spyder and most other sub $200 guns it's not even funny. Whatever you do tho, buy a new barrel for the tippmann, the stock barrel is bad.

My advice. Go try out a few differnt guns. Alot of shops (provided ther have a field there or a shooting area) will allow you to try out a gun. in the $200 range there are alot of guns..

ACI Griffin, F4
Kingman Spyder line.
Tippman M98.
Sheridan XTS / XTS Nemesis.
Brass Eagle Raptor or oters.
to name just a mear few brands and models.

it all depends on what you want.. what are you going to play ? Speed ball, Bunker ball, Woods, Rec, ?? If you like speed ball. stay away from LONG guns like the tippmans. you can't tuck into a bunker with that gun as you can with others..

My personal suggestion. Please do yourself a favor, GO SHOOT a few different guns for yourself, and find what YOU like to shoot, not someone else likes.

yeah i agree with Crisis, try the guns out first. i would recommend any tippman, their excellent guns and u can see down the barrel unlike spyders.

Go with a Piranha. They are light, easy to field strip, and have a nice trigger pull. Too many newbies have 98s - just be original.

Here's My view of the m98

I'm in no way bashing them nor praising them, this is MY view..

Pro's:
STRONG GUN.
Durable.
Accurate. (Seeing down the barrel is a plus!)
Upgradable.
FLATLINE avalable (need i say more) ?
can run co2 or n2/hpa out of the box

Cons:
BLOW BACK gun
Long.
Heavy.
Excessivly heavy trigger pull sometimes.
Reactive trigger not that great.
Full Auto mod is dumb.
I mean a full auto blow back, come on....

This is in no way a bashing, to some people these guns are great.

Now to me this is another (semi-jaded view, i own a moded spyder 2000 with elcd grip)

Spyder 2000

Pro's:
Upgradable.
Accurate. (stock barrel shoots GREAT! way to go kingman)
Durrable. (throw it i dare ya!!!)
Simple ONE PIN field striping.
Has a regulator - adjustable. (okay not a GREAT one, but 1 none the less!)
E-LCD grip available. (for you semi, burst, full auto fans)
Can run co2 or n2/hpa out of the box.
Bottom line is stock.

Con's:
Blow back gun.
Regulator is not a top end one.
LOUD AS HELL.
That damn m-16 grip....
Can't aim on top of barrel due to power feed.

those are 2 that i have shot extensivly. and in my opinion, regaurding MY shooting style and level of comfort, i prefer a kingman spyder 2000 over a m98.. BUT i still 100% suggest doing your own tests and find what you like yourself.. remember ONLY YOU KNOW YOU.. someone else's view isn't going to suit your shooting style and comfort.

Go with a spyder Tl plus, they have a sight rail so you can stick on a sight for $15 and see over the powerfeed and it has an decent barrel good for a stock barrel. Th double trigger works well and ups the rate of fire alot, the only problem is you can chop balls if you don't use a reveloution.

yeah..TL Plus is a great gun. ALso, it's crazy upgradeable, like ELCD grip frames and such.

Richy_C, I'm really sorry to tell you this but your spyder is an exact cousin to the prianha..

the highend spyder (shutter)
and highend piranha (don't know model) are damn near identical.. fucntion wise they are 100% identical.

But the problem is I live in a small little hick town with no field. Me and my friends play in the woods and hay fields behind a friends house. But there is a huge sports store 20 miles up road with a big section dedicated to paintball equip. So I cant test any guns. I am thinking about asking the guy behind the counter and getting a TL Plus. Anything I should know about it. Thanks for all your help so far.

Besides the fact that it's a great gun even stock out of the box. And there is plenty of mods for it..

Ha Ya Doin?

I happen to like my m98 custom better than my bros spyder tl plus. Don't get me wrong they are both very good guns.

If you can't try the gun out before you buy it then do some reserch on all the guns you wanted and go with the one you like best.

hope this helps
peace,
Rocky

Try them out. I personally would take my SE over the M 98 but it's your shooting style and you hold the gun that decides which one is better for you............

A damn fool

I would go with the tl plus, its similar to the shutter, but withought the color and ****y reg and drop forward, but ull replce tht ne ways, so it wont matter. Definetly go with the tlplus by spyder

I'd probably go with a Piranha or Spyder instead. A M98 is a good gun but might be difficult for you to take apart and assemble again.

A Spyder is easier to do so and a piranha is even easier. All guns are good guns. Since you cant try it before you buy it...is there a field you can visit?

I wouldn't go for the tl plus, don't get me wrong it's a great gun (I own one) but if you plan on upgrading at all you'll end up taking off many of the parts that you payed extra for. Go with a compact 200 or a spyder bottomline and spend all the extra money decking it out.

that's what i tried but it wasn't worth it
