This thread is intended to adress all the questions about the sue of Low Pressure output tanks on the impulse. Smart Parts reccommends using a high pressure tank, one that outputs 800psi if you are using a preset tank. The impulse runs at optimal levels with 500psi going into it. Although it may seem that 450psi would then be operating the gun at too low of a level of pressure, it works just fine. Beware that the 400 psi output tanks don't work as well on the impulse. My friends at Michigan Paintball (EPBO) and I agree that Low Pressure tanks can be used, as long as the output is of 450psi or greater.

Anyone who has used a low pressure tank on their impulse please post replies on how it worked and how the impulse functioned or didn't function. Thanks

i used a 450 psi putput tank, and it didnt seem to work as well as a higher-output tank.

I've used Nitroduck 68/4.5k (HP) and Crossfire 68/4.5k (LP), and I did not notice any difference in performance or air efficiency in my Impulse.

Does Maxflow "work better" with HP tanks? I bought the LP tank, figuring Maxflow wouldn't have to "work" as hard to regulate air from lower source.

It is possible to use the lower pressure tanks, but I very highly recomend the high pressure tanks for best preformance.

We have had two big problems with low pressure tanks (both the same brand tank- but not the same tank) I honestly still scratch my head on these because I have no idea what could be happening.

The first time we saw this was at a turny. Every thing was working fine until the shooter ran the tank down to about 600 psi-- suddenly the input pressure on the gun jumped up to over 200 psi. (and hot shot for the next fewshots) I honestly don't know what the low pressure tank gettin low could possibly do to cause the maxflo to suddeny jump- but it did. We rebuilt the reg (thinking it HAD to be a reg problem) but as soon as the tank got down under about 600 it again jumped way up. We switched to a center flag tank and purposly ran it down- and the reg stayed rock solid at the 160 psi we had set it for. We put the crossfire tank back on- and like clock work, it goes below 600 the max flo goes crazy.

The second time was also a low pressure cross fire tank that someone was using out at the field. Again, when the pressure in the tank droped below about 550, the maxflo pressure climed thru the celing. Now I know that the tanks are most likly "free flowing (suddenly dumping like the full 500-600 into the gun) but the maxflo SHOULD "catch" that. The only possible thing I can think of is that we are at the vey edge of the maxflo range when using the 450 input, and when it suddenly gets the dump from the tank- it spikes.

now I can run PMI and Center Flage tank down to 100 psi- and never see this spike- and I realy have no resion this happens-- and only seems ot happen with one brand of tank- but thats my story and I'm sticking too it

Which tank do you reccomend the PMI or the Centerflag, which has the better reg?

Interesting experience with the Crossfire tanks, FOM. I've run my Crossfire tank down close to zero with my impulse and have not had the spike problem you have describled. Maybe I'm just luck or Crossfire had some faulty tanks. And if it's the latter, just contact Crossfire, they have a great customer service.

whenever i use an LP nitro duck tank, the max flow seems to climb slowly. but high pressure there is no problem. real weird.

I use a LP Crossfire 68/4500 tank on my Impulse. No problems whatsoever. Works great. I've also used an HP tank once and saw no performance difference. I see absolutely no shootdown, even when shooting a full Rev in one long string of paint at approximately 12bps. No shootdown at all... the balls all go where I point them.

Either way, IME, it doesn't matter. One caveat, however... if you buy a LP tank you are VERY limited as to what markers you can use it on. If you have several markers, a LP tank might be a poor choice.

I've also run the tank right to empty (to the point the Imp wouldn't even cycle) and seen no "spiking" of any kind.

first this only happened with low pressure crossfires. While I don't happen to like the Crossfire tanks, I have never seen this happen with a HP tank. And it has only happed with these two tanks-- We have a lot of fokes around here that play with cross fire tanks - but I have no idea how many are low pressure as opposed to the 750 PSI ones
