Can I buy a different reg?

Sorry for the n00b question (i'm not a n00b but i've never bothered to ask anyone). I dont mean altogether, i know i can easily buy a new reg, but are they designed specificly for each gun? like suppose I wanted to buy a smarts parts verticle max flow for my e-2. would I be able to put it on? or is it designed only for impulse and shockers?

I think that each regulator is different, I mean they have different threadings just like the barrel on markers.

the paintman:ummm not really, palmers is the only one i've heard making different connections for their regs but its just 1/8NPT or standard ASA. Other than the palmers all the rest use standard ASA screw in.
