Ok....I'm not completely understanding how xball works.
40 minutes. 90 minutes total. How is the score kept? When they say 40 minutes does that mean you play several games at once, like one after the other over 40 minutes? the paintball.com explanation didn't explain how things would be scored. like...40 minutes...but if your entire team is shot out....how is it scored? then another game starts? you play the team several times over 40 minutes rather then once to see who really is better?
im all for anythign that could bring paintball mainstream, it sounds good...and the smaller bunkers look like it will make paintball much more agressive and fast paced.

It is crazy! saw it today at IAO. 4 quarters of 10 minutes. each time a flag is hung a point is awarded to the team and the clock is stoped for 3 mintues. in that 3 min you have to get new paint and air if needed. they have10 players per team but only 5 on the feild at a time. after the first and 3rd quarters a 5 min break and at half a 10 min break. and switch sides at half time. if a penlety happens the team plays a man down for how ever long the time (2 to 5 min) for wiping, hot gun etc... if the other team scores he stays in the box.(which is at the starting point of the teams.) Hope this cleared up some stuff. if not i will try again.

oh ok...so you play 4 games....how is it scored tho? like is it NPPL style...50 points for hang....20 for first pull...like....in NPPL you play a set number of games all day....against different teams....and the most points moves on...in xball how is everything spread out for advancement....
****...i had NO idea IAO had the nations cup...i thought it was just 5/3man tourny and a trade show...had i known about xball i might have taken the 6 hour drive up.....damnit xball sounds awesome
thxn for the infoi

Nope there are endless amounts of games. HOw ever many you can get within 10 min. one piont for flag hang, 0 for pull, 0 for elimation. it is just between nations now (usa, russia, canada, sweden, germany, france, england). winner plays winner and loser plays loser. it is all star teams. lots of bunkering, lots of 1 on 1s. a coach can "throw in the towel" to end the match early to save time. and they have one time out to use for an extra min on to the 3 min between hangs. it is awsome

ok....so it's all about the flag....that's cool...xball does sound really good...very fast...very team oriented...and more coaching and the such....

it is a basic speed ball sup air type feild. with a huge X in the middle. standing up (for the X ball). one side has a lot of lay downs and the other is cones (triangle) type bunkers. all are air ball and no cord or anything to trip over.

They're going to pay the players! What is this? Football now!? They should only pay the winners, like a tournament. And only the best can play! It's disturbing. I say away with X-Ball!

I think xball is great....nothing wrong with paying them....but things like the NPPL/PSP and tournements should still exist...where regulars players can show their stuff and get known

All i know is that USA kicked some major Russian a*s yesterday. The guys were really getting the US fans pumped up(yes there we're fans of different countries).
Score was 9-3 in the end USA. They are going to win the whole thing.:D

Im not sure how I feel about players getting paid to play. On the one hand, it is someone else's money and they can do with it as they want, but at the same time, it brings a whole lot of politics into the sport that I dont think it needs.
The one problem I think paintball and XBall still need to overcome is the shortness of games. If it was, say, 15man games, played on a field the size of a football field, then It would be huge spectator wise, but I just think the games may be too short to bring a breakthrough that they are looking for.

This doesnt really relate to X-ball, but i was sitting at the SP tent playing Halo with a LAN setup with another kid. After 30mins 6 more guys with white and black shirts come over, sit down, and start playing....it was Team Strange...my mouth just dropped...you see they happen to be my favorite team. We'll we played Halo for about and hour and let me tell ya these guys were cool to hang out with...they were like average guys that you would hang out with...they talked smack when the wasted you and they *****ed like guys do when they get blown up by a plasma grenade.
Basically i dont think people realized who they were...in the end they got me a SP Freak head band and all signed it.
Strange was always my favorite team, but now they are my heros(i know it sounds corny).
But if X-ball(players getting payed big money) will change the way those guys act...then get it the hell out of paintball, because we dont need anymore arrogant athletes.
Later all

You know, you bring up a very good point. A lot of athletes in professional sports seem to be very narcissistic, but paintballers are all down to earth, so it seems. I wish that everything could stay generally the same, with minor improvements in the way things are run...but everything changes when money gets involved.

Well, I would assume any team playing would have some sort of paint sponsorship, at least at that level.
Flanders
08-11-2002, 09:45 PM
well, yea diablo is sponsering like all the teams, i think
but paint is flying for shure

well, yea diablo is sponsering like all the teams, i think
but paint is flying for shure, and all players can use what ever gun is there fave, not which ever gun they are sponsered to use, pretty sweet

if it is exactly five minutes into a round and you hang the flag does the round start again with five minutes left, or two? What i'm asking is, does the hang break subtract from round time?
X-ball would be a great way to have a league and not a tourney. The teams come together for one game like basketball, soccer, baseball and all that. 40 minutes of actual game play, then 35 minutes of breaks not include the hang breaks would definetely not be "too short." Once people start really putting money into this stuff they could show replays on big screens in between rounds and during hang breaks.
Another idea that might make games more interesting forX-ball and normal pball that you would get more points for hanging the flag if there were more opponents on the field. I just think this would lead to some more mad dashes with the flag.

RPS only sponsors 1 team directly (AA's?)...and they make the best paint....of course NPS (draxxus) is the company that sponsors everyone

found the xball website. I also found out that it's xball not x-ball as I've been spelling it. www.xballpaintball.com It includes all the rules too.

This sounds great for the popularity of the sport, which is something it definitly needs, but I'm not sure I like the part about the players being payed. It turns all the players into snooty celebrities, and makes the sport lose some of it's wild side. Pretty soon you'll start seeing teams like "the Tigers", or "the Cowboys" instead of teams like "Strange" and "the Rabid Butterflies" (see team names thread). Well, I don't know if it will go that far, but I think it should stick with sponsorships and tournaments, like all the sports in the x-games (xball would fit right into those), before we start seeing team owners, coaches, and player trading. I like that all the teams are made up of people that the reast of the team chose, most often groups of freinds that used to go to the same school. Like that story about team Strange walking in and playing Halo with that dude, you think that will happen if the team is put together because such and such player would join for less money and such and such other player left because he was offered more money by such and such other team? Hell no! Do it for the nookie, or a cookie, ar a friggin cold beer for all I care, but please, please, not for the money. ( I attribute the last completely non-sensical and insane statement to the fact that it is 4 in the morning). Anywhoo, thats my 1.6720939 cents, I'm off to bed.

There are already team owners, coaches, and player trading (kinda).
One of the key's to making this work in the mainstream, is that you gotta fit it to their venue's, I guess it would probibly work best as an indoor sport played in basketball area's. football stadiums are way too big.

i think xball is awesome, but it's going to take a while for it to become main stream, or even on the x games. because when people are watching espn and they see paintball their not gonna know what it is, but eventually people will learn it and understand it more and that is when they will show it on sportcenter every morning.

I dont think if the players get paid it will make the m arrogant.....it depends on HOW MUCH money they get paid if they get paid an average salary then they'll still be down to earth IMO.

have any of you guys seen baseketball? That movie was about not corrupting sports, more or less. I think trading and stuff would ruin paintball. If every player got the same amount of money then it would mostly be friends playing together cause you can't get payed more to work for another team.
Could you post those USA vids plz?
