Hey All,
Zero Tolerance attended the Sacramento Cup over the weekend and took first in the Am Division. We shot Direct Hit for this event and the paint was on target.
We ordered 17 cases, 10 were used for the event. Out of those 10 we did not receive a single broken ball during shipping. The paint looked great when we opened the cases, a few balls had small dimples. Something to think about when you get paint though is to open them the night before, most dimples will remove themselves with air. I've had an experience with a different paint where it was the worst dimples I had ever seen, after the opening cases the paint shot straight the next day.
The Pros:
This paint shot extremely straight, groupings were tight even on the run. The straight shot is up on top with other tournament paints.
The fill is VERY bright. From across field we could see the hits on arms, visors, guns, goggles, etc. The fill is bright enough to be used in tournament play and at the same time does not stain clothes for tournaments where that type of paint is illegal.
Out of ~19,000 balls we only had a few break in the gun. The paint was shot through Angels, Cockers and Defiants.
The price is the cheapest you will find for a quality non-practice paint. This paint is not seconds and it is not practice paint, it can be used in a tournament situation and perform well. We played against teams shooting, all star, hellfire, predator ball, etc.
This ball can be used for both rec, practice and tournaments due to it's cost. This allows a player to shoot the same paint regardless of the arena.
The Cons:
The size of the ball was inconsistent from ball to ball which resulted in a larger fluctuation at the chrono. Our last shipment did not have this problem and Direct Hit has contacted us to let us know they are fixing the inconsistency issues.
We had a few bounces on player's bodies that we hoped would break. The fps limit at this tournament was 280 so this may be a result of these bounces as well as the 95+ degree heat. We'll be shooting the paint at 300 fps at an upcoming tournament and I'll come back with the results.
My overall thoughts:
I've always been partial to shooting Diablo at tournaments. However the high price and the inconsistencies of their batches has steered me to find another ball to use for tournaments and practice. Allstar with the marb shell bounces way to much at 300 fps to be considered for tournament play. Their paint has also been on the large size and I prefer the smaller paint to go with the barrels I have. I believe Direct Hit has found a ball that will perform well at an incredible price. I'm definitely going to keep on shooting this ball to see how it evolves. If you have doubts of this paint do what I did and pick up a case to use at practice. The worst thing that could happen is that you don't like how it performs, however the best thing that could happen is you find a new ball that saves you money and rocks when you need it.
Good luck!
