Recently I have noticed a lot of people asking about after market regs for their BDs. Here is my opinion:
Black Dragons, like any Spyder or Spyder clone runs at "high" pressure. The spring, valve, and the rest of the internals are made for 650 to 850 psi (the pressure you get right out of your tank). The Black Dragon does come with a "reg" (little more then a ASA with a guage). This does do some for the marker but not as much as an after market reg. MOST, not all, after marker regs. are made for guns that can operate at low pressure (i.e. lighter springs, different valves, differerent hammer/ lug). A cocker is a good example. You can get darn near anything after market for a cocker. If you want low pressure... you just have to specify how low (some regs can go, VERY LOW). But all low pressure does for you is makes your gun use less gas and shoot shorter (You might have to arch your shots if you get the pressure REALLY LOW). But a black dragon doesn't have the choices in after market parts the cocker enjoys. So getting an expensive reg would just cause your BD to 'suck' air. You would basically starve your gun and when shooting fast you would most likely run into all kinds of problems (chopping, shoot down, you name it and I am sure it could happen).
SOLUTION: Don't get a "fancy" reg for your BD. Just play with the thing and have fun. If you are one to worry about performance and tweeking your gun... get a cocker.
