Its a trend. People may say to talk better, breath better, etc. Its all false, they do it cause it looks cool.

Yes, I flip my mask up. One because its molded like that, and if I flip it down it looks really stupid. Two because when I'm off the field my mask stays on my head. Flipping it keeps it out of my eyes. Three, if it helps with breathing, talking, whatever, all the better.
