I posted this over at PBN, but i would like the opinion from people on this forum aswell, just go give you guys a equal chance to prove you also have intelligent helpful members :D (after all, i did start at this forum).
well, this is one of my general dislikes about paintball, probly my main one, and the reason some outings are the best, and some leave me wondering if i belong in this sport.
the pain/marks a day of paintball leaves on the body:
when i played paintball in israel (the day i decided i liked it a lot and wanted to buy my own gun), they outfitted us with full protection - including a chest protector. i actually dont remember a paintball hurting that day - which lead to more rushing, more time spent out of bunkers, and overall a much more enjoybale expeirence.
when i got back to Toronto, and i played, i still have a lot of fun every time. even more so now that i am using a gun that shoots well! but i still hurt every time i get hit, i still welt 99% of the time i am shot, and i am much more of a "new" style player - i only occasionaly rush, only have done a few bunkers, and still call myself out before checking to see if the ball broke.
do any of you have ways to maybe stop the bruising and pain of a paintball hit other than a chest protector? i mean, i would buy one if it'd help, but i'd be taunted at the field, and to tell you the truth, it is way too bulky, heavy, and would make me really hot (i am already too hot in a long sleeved jersey!)
all and any input is wanted, and please dont gimme the "toughen up you ****** ***** *****!!!" routine, because that's what i've been telling myself the whole time.

I'm sorry, but I am going to have to tell you to toughen up. The aspect of pain adds adrenaline to the sport of paintball. Knowing that if you get hit it will string makes you run and move a lot faster.
Sorry again, but If you can't take the pain, go play Laser Tag.

Well, I am used to the pain now but I found that wearing clothing made of cotton and and about a size too big actually helps. When the ball gets me on the arm or side, the cloth will simply constrict around the arm on the opposite side and get caught in the cloth. On a chest shot, it slows the ball down to a much less painful speed. I say cotton because I live in Texas and 90-100 degrees is the norm in July and August when I play the most. The cotton allows my flesh to breathe and at the same time is much more gentle and it serves as a cushion. It won't stop all the pain, but it should slow it down enough and I got a nice one that is extremely comfortable and dark colored for my woods games for about seven bucks at Sams Club. Hope that helps.
If you don't mind wearing summer camouflage (lighter and easier to circulate air through) then that is another route to go. Stops a lot of paintballs in the chest area but again, not as flexible around the arms.
I agree with the no vest. In reality, it is still going to jolt you back, it only absorbs most of the force. I use the bruises as a mark to remind me of what it feels like to get hit and move on, I usually get hit in the hands though so that is definiely painful. Good luck

You should pick up a pair of gloves, if you haven't already. If someone is shooting hot, your finger can be easily broken.
I remember one time (awhile ago, the first day I bought a pair of JT Premier 2ks) when I had my Impulse, I was in the woods and broke a ball. I was about to stick my squegee down the barrel, and accidently bumped the trigger and the gun went off, and put a ball right into my finger from about 2 inches.
Thanks to the "armor" on the gloves, I didn't feel anything besides my hand jerking back. Gotta love it.

Fatten up! eat eat eat
but seriously
loose fitting clothing is about the best you can get. i never really notice any pain unless i get a bounce, a close range impact, or hit in sensative areas (head hand neck head). If you keep getting hit in senseative areas like the head or hand then learn from the mistake. Have a friend watch or film you playing and change the way you play to keep that part covered. Get some protection for that area as well.

if you play right...you should not be getting shot in the chest and wut not...u should get gun/ hopper and goggles hits mostly...just play tight and advance only when u can keep them down. after a while, the pain of hits will go away and y'll be fine, just try to tough it till then

That's all I've gotten the last 4 or so times that I've played. Either I take one to the visor or a hopper/gun hit. I actually want to get a body hit one of these days...girls like welts...;)
davkad- Like everyone said, wear loose clothing. I usually wear a long sleeved shirt (mostly to protect from bugs) and cargo pants. Wear a nice thick sweatshirt or something when you play.

If you don't have blind fireing, corect volocity, and a surender rule, it shouldn't hurt too bad.
The only hits that really hurt are like the back and side of your head. The rest go away preety fast. Ohh yah bounces and old paint kill too.

I wear a basic woodland bdu,and as many times as I've been shot,I've only felt one,and it was on the neck (ouch)
I literally don't feel shots...maybe I just have a high pain threshold,but I doubt it :P

Like all the rest of these people are saying.. wear some loose clothing like a jersey or something thats neat... you dont need to layer up with like 4 sweatshirts and look like a bloated elf. Play right and you'll mostly get hit in the gun, hopper, mask and maybe hands.. get protection on your hands cuz they do get shot alot and sometimes they hurt a lot. umm i like to wear a sock hat and im usuially too slow to pull back into my bunker and i ALWAYS get hit above my goggles but with the sockhat NONE break cuz its nice and fluffy.. also you could lift some weights or gain weight... shooot im a little beefy myself and i take a LOT of bounces. but ummm yeah usually the best way is to just deal with it. I learned not to hate paintball when my Friends " initiated me at their field"... i got shot by my friend on top of my head from close range cuz i was too afriad to look out and i suffered the consquences. But now that memory sticks in my mind everytime i play and i usually get extremely pumped up before that game and its pure adrenaline playing and when i get hit i usually dont feel it... hope that helps... dont go out and buy a chest protector cuz paint still leaves welts through them.

You've never been shot in the goods...have you?
I took one right in the junk two days ago. About 4 games later I was almost back to full speed...
Cups are uncomfortable but I might try making a loin cloth type thing...

Get shot like 30 times that way you'll get used to it and later on getting hit 1-3 times won't seem bad at all. I usually play in a beater and bdu pants or overalls.

thanks for all the input guys.
but actually, i am not that bad about it. some days, i dont feel it, and i rush like mad and get in a buch of bunkerings... but on other days i feel extra sensitive. i have the type of body that welts no matter what (even though the field fps limit is 230), and i dont care what you guys say... the girls i chill wiht dont like welts.
i think i will just hafta suck it up, paintball is too much fun to get out of of just because of a lil pain. it's just some days....

250?!? is that indoor?
is it me or does the back hurt like crazy , thats the only spot im sensity on, that and......just the back i dont know why. i dont mind getting hit in the hands neck arms or legs, just the back man i hate that

it doesnt bother me much anymore, i got shot like 20 times from point blank, so im kinda use to it, one game i got like 10 bounces man that sucked, also where a cup that will stop lots of pain, anyways if you worried about getting hit stay back i guess
tippyman182
08-26-2002, 08:14 AM
ya id have to say the back is the worst pretty much even tho a shot to the goods is bad too it doesn't happen as much. i got shot 7 times by a kid shooting 330 (the kid turned his velocity the wrong way trying to turn it down) and i was reffing and they all bled. but now i really don't feel the hits as much its just like if u watch violent movies alot its not really gonna mke u flinch if u watch another really gory one. if u play alot and get shot alot then u will become desensitised (sp)

I took not 1, but 2 shots to one of the tendons in my neck yesterday, from 15 feet. My own retarded assed fault, stupid move, but every time I move my head, it kills. 2 ugly *** hicky welts on my neck just intime for school. Yay :|
But really, if you start playing with better players, and better fields, they use better paint, which doesn't hurt nearly so much. I'd rather take 3 Inferno hits then 1 marbelizer bounce.
Paint Bulley
08-26-2002, 09:46 AM
owwwww marbalizers hurt...
my brother use to use those, and they would alllways bounce...
if you wana wear a chest protectorr..... just wear a chest protector and nothing else on your upper body (well mask of course...)
but then they wont make fun of you, or you can tell them to try it....
--
some guy said get totally wasted (as in shot to ****) so you wont mind so much any more........
i agree, i use to charge like crazy to no avail (still do sometimes if i race people down the field) and it dont matter anymore
if you play woods on a long fall..... get a friend and race him down the field to where the other team starts, it's fun :D

I was at Iron Triangle the other day (this run down yet fun paintball place) and this one man came in with a chest protector on and put a shirt over it. He was a big guy and I also believe he was ex-millitary. Funny...

i just wanna know what is up with all ur fields......my field i always play at (and now work at...yay!) the limit has always been 300 and now is lowerd to 280 because all these little kids would come home bleeding and crying to thier mommas and one threatened to sue so we had to change it...and ur all complaning about 230.....

can you really feel the difference between 230 feet per second and 280 feet per second?

hey... i play at sc village 285 fps max once i got shot in the back 5 times (7 feet away) , i suck and i wasnt paying attention, but that hurt WAY less than getting hit once on my right breast (lol 15 feet away) u can see like veins forming around on my right breast where i got hit its weird... anyways, im relatively new to the sport in playing, ive only gone like 4 or 5 times so far, i hate speedball probably because i suck now, but as for getting hit... i dont really mind i mean it hurts but i suck it up, except the problem is this: shot = welt = BIG rainbow bruise = lasts for weeks = leaves permanent "marks" = leaves that part of my skin sensitive and painful if gets pushed on...... does this happen to anyone else lol HAHAH ok l8er guys
