Well, we've done it one more time! Not only does Michigan Technological University have the oldest college paintball club in the United States, but it now also has the first college paintball P.E. class for college credit! It took alot of work to get to this point and we currently have 16 people signed up for this semester. Does it get any better? College credit and paintball, COMBINED!

I'm very happy to hear that your college was able to get a PE Paintball class.
I had lobbied my old college for 3 years to include paintball as a course and the best they would do was to offer it as an option for thier outdoor adventure class.
Good luck with it. I'd be interested in hearing how the class will be set up. (safety, marker opperation and maintenance, marksmanship, team tactics etc???)
If you haven't already done so could you submit an article to college-paintball.com on how you went about getting the class approved?

We built and maintain a couple of fields on campus property about 1 mile off the main campus. The main field is a plywood and barrels speedball course, while our secondary field is a woods/speedball field. We maintain our own rentals, co2 fills, and we're about to get a compressor to fill 4500 tanks. Right now we get nitro fills via the scuba club. For fund raisers, we have fall and spring tourneys. This fall it will be a 3-man format. In years past it was a 5-man format with about 11 teams in attendance. We're hoping for at least 20 teams for this fall's tourney.

The club officers will be running the class. As for a format, lots of ideas have been kicked around including a tech class to learn the ins and outs of automags from Tom Kaye himself. Safety is also a major concern, but our club has always had a very strict safety policy including the standard safety spiel before we play during open play.

We are seriously hoping that other colleges will follow our lead in this area and help bring paintball mainstream since this move helps give paintball a more legitamate look in the view of the general public. We plan on getting an article out in a few paintball magazines (probably APG or Crossfire) on how we went about getting everything done.

Lol, no it's not ITT tech. It's located in the upper pennisula, in the middle of the keewanaw pennisula. Basically, the middlw of the rabbit ears, near WI. For you it's roughly a 12-13 hour drive.

It's definitely great to hear this. I suppose that's one benefit of having a college out in the boonies like Houghton... That, and the Skiing. I love the UP, and am looking to go into engineering. Love skiing and camping, and MTU has a great engineering program, so MTU is high on my list of colleges to apply for. I love paintball too, so this puts MI Tech even higher. Very cool!!

That is sweet. Here at Mizzou they dont even offer a P.E. class period. The closest thing is women's self defense and I dont feel like getting my a** kicked by a punch of women. G.L. with the class and I hope you dont have any idiots that messes the class up for everyone. Jason

THat's pretty awsome. It would be a great impact on paintball if you could distribute this idea to other school campus's all over the United States.

MTU or Michigan Technilogical Institute is located in Houghton, Micigan. heres a map (http://img225.echo.cx/my.php?image=mapimage9ad.gif) its not a very good map but you get the idea. the mtu paintball field is acctually not open untill the fall semester because they just planted new grass and there is nobody that stays up here for the summer so we play in the woods. heres a review (http://www.pbreview.com/fields/reviews/1189/) for the feild. i hope this helps you
