what are good upgrades

You could get a garbage can...thats a worthy upgrade...
My buddy used an avenger, balls didnt go straight or chopped like the samurai, if you dont play alot or just play with friends then its okay, but if you plan on going to fields and to tournaments id suggest upgrading to a better gun, Spyder E-99's are cheap and reliable. same with JT Excellerator 5.0's

A couple people at my local field play with the new production run Avengers, and they seem to be completely rid of the old problems. You gotta remember, Avengers are relatively new guns, they're still working out all the kinks (And boy did the first ones have kinks, lemme tell ya!)

You can get an expansion chamber from paintballadventures.com or get a vert adaptor from dropzone and then get an x-chamber or gas threw foregrip.

if you get the first one you dont need a vert adaptor
