View Full Version : Now that my Evlution works...

If anyone missed my previous thread, to bring you up to speed I bought an Ev 2 that was broken right out of the box. I took it to the store I got it from, and now it is fixxed.
On to the post, I remember a couple of people asking me to post how well the loader works when it is fixxed. Well you asked for it, and here it is :)
I did 3 tests, which consisted of emptying a 140 round pod of paint into the loader, then timing how long it took the loader to spit the paint out. Paint used was 5 month old Diablo Blaze that had been sitting in a grocery bag in my room. Before loading the paint, I had to break it up a bit, sicne all 500 or so balls had stuck together to form a giant "paintball rice krispy". Well I knew I'd find some sort of use for this stuff eventually ;)
Paint was not counted, but the pod was properly filled up so that when the lid was closed, shaking it did not produce a rattling sound. 3 quarters of the pod was already filled with paint from 2 weeks ago, so only a few balls were the 5 month old crap. Anyhow, I busted out my stopwatch and did 3 tests to see how long it took to empty the loader.
Test 1: 7 seconds
Test 2: 7 and a half seconds (a few balls rolled around a bit)
Test 3: 7 seconds
That gives a rough estimate of the speed to be around 20 balls per second. Assuming maybe the balls had swollen a bit and I only fit 130 in the pod, that makes 18.5 bps. Anyone buying a HALO solely because it feeds faster is a goof, since I don't think they'll be outshooting 18.5 bps anytime soon.
For my second trial (mostly because it's fun) I took the loader out back, filled it with paint, stuck it on my gun and ripped on the trigger. My board is limited at 14 bps on my marker, but during rapid firing there were no breaks when the marker slowed down to let the loader catch up. It was just one solid stream of paintballs coming out without the slightest hiccup. Granted every couple balls did an insane corkscrew manuever, but we can chalk that up to the highly deformed paint.
All in all, I'm pretty happy with the loader now that it's working. It doesn't sit any higher than my revvy did, it cost 10 bucks more and it feeds faster than anyone using semi is going to need. Definately a loader I would recomend, despite my initially getting a broken one.
On a side note, I experienced no ball jams or breaks during any of my testing.

Thanks for the info. Want to send it to me for, um, evaluation?

I suppose people who call it the "Eggolution 2" probably haven't actually used it.

I still call em eggies only because they're egg shaped. I have no problems with that loader design (although I dont have a gun that warrants an eggy... ...yet.) Evvy just doesnt sound right. Eggy sounds nicer. Sole reason for calling it an eggy.

ElTwicho- 2 things.
I want to see what one may look like on my Timmy, could you post a pic?
Secondly, HAHAHAHAHA, you didn't get a WAS board. You need to get one, they rock. I might buy a HALO though.

Well...I think the thing is bloody ugly, but hey, I think 14 balls on my jersey in one second is kinda ugly too. Cool beans Twitch.

I just tell people a miniature goodyear blimp landed on top of my revvy, well actually I haven't yet, but that's my plan

Two 9 volt batteries. I think it actually runs at 18 volts though, instead of being toned down to 12 volts like the revvy is. Don't quote me on that, but I believe that's how it is.

Sure, I'm trying to get my digicam in working order (why does everything break?!?!) but when I do I'll have pictures up. It takes a bit of getting used to, but it's sort of stylish, in a goodyear blimp kind of way.
As for the WAS board, I'm planning on ordering one once Jim stops putting out a new version every 15 minutes. When it slows down a bit, I'll have mine on order

A few questions for you:
1. Aside from the fact that it was initially broken, does it seem to be a quality made product? BE stuff is usually hit or miss so I'm wondering if you think this thing will last, or does it seem like it could break at any moment?
2. Have you been able to find a cover that will fit it?
3. If money were no object, would you stick with the Eggy, or get a HaloB?
I was just starting to enjoy twitches depression:(

Its all about the Halo. They will give you a working hopper. You won't have to fix it. That alone is enough to sacrafice the 4 bps that is the only difference between the egg and the OLD halo. I'd rather save the case, get a hyer quality hopper with equal performance. And now that the HaloB is out it owns the egg anyways.

Change your user title to "HALO fanboy" when you get a chance, could you?

It does actually seem well built and solid. The feedneck is fairly thick and all the parts just seem well put together, the fit is good and al pieces line up properly with each other. To be honest, I would be quite surprised if it breaks
As for a cover... well I haven't really been looking for one, so I can't answer that exactly
Lastly, money is no object for me. My paintball budget is such that if I felt the need to blow the money I could drive out and grab the Dark IR3 off the shelf at Premium right this moment. That doesn't mean I want to waste a hundred dollars for nothing though. If you buy a HALO solely for it's speed over the evo, you're really paying an extra hundred dollars for the exact same product, since you aren't going to outshoot an ev.
The evo also happens to be lighter (alot lighter), and I don't much like the idea of using 6 AA batteries in a loader, two 9 volts seems alot more convenient to me. There's still alot of talk going around in a number of gun owner forums of the HALO breaking balls in their vert feed markers. The reason being, that the paint is being thrown into the breech way too damn hard and cracking when it hits the bottom. I can provide links to a couple threads of timmy users experiencing this, but it seems relatively common. To me, that's not really worth loading 22 bps instead or 18, because like I said, you'll never reach that limit. I mean hell, I can hook a warp feed up to my cars fan belt and I bet it'll feed at least 150 bps, but every ball is going to break, so what's the point?
The evo also holds the most paint out of any motorized loader in production, maybe that's a big deal for some people, for me it really isn't.
The only real practical advantage that the HALO has over an evo that I can see is that it balances more traditionally than the egg. The weight distribution on a HALO is going to feel very similar to how it does on a revvy (although alot heavier, which feels nasty when you tilt the gun) while the evo is going to feel a bit odd at first. Myself I don't find it that big a deal, and I can still hold my marker loosely by the grip and not have it pitch forwards or backwards, so really to me that's not a big deal.
Make your choices based on that I suppose, I would (and did) chose the evo, because it really didn't seem to make sense to be paying more for less with a HALO

sounds good... What were the main changes that were made between it and the 1st one? ... I don't see how it could feed faster than 13 bps, isn't it a gravity feed hopper? I would like to see a pic of it too... Well, its fast and effective now, but its still big and heavy (I even consider revies heavy though)...

Weighs about the same as a revvy, and the operation is pretty much exactly the same as a HALO (recessed floor with an opening for balls to get pushed through)

The profile on the egg looks to be a lot less then the halo, the halos look really fat, while an egg is, what looks like, longer but slimmer.

I love you elTwitcho ! you just solved my thoughtless nights, wondering about geting a Halo B or an Evo II. And you used facts instead of hearsay and guess'. YOU ARE MY HERO ! Thanks man !:D
