The fix for the horizonal MF

Ok guys im sure you have all heard of using the "o-ring" trick to fix the problems that occur with the horizontal reg...here is my question, how can i shorten the pin in the reg so that the problem with not occur , and i will not need to use the o-ring trick? How much will i need to shorten in and what should i shorten it with?

The first best way is to simply use a mono-tool (Dremel) with a flat top cutter. most don't have that so one of the small grinders will work well.
