Hey, just wondering what the 98c comes with out of the box. Does it have a hopper? how many round is it?

The elbow is build onto the gun right? And it pops off?

Do I just need to get a co2 tank?

Obviously a mask.

squeegee.

oil.

Anything else?

Basically once I buy the 98c what else do I need to get to use it.

The gun comes with a hopper, oil, squeegee, barrel plug, and a manual. Oh the gun too =p

The hopper is 200 or 250 rounds. The elbow is connected to the gun, but when you push in the front sight, it flips back so you can get to the front bolt in case you chop a ball..if you slide the elbow to the left(coming at it from the side its on) it will slide out of the holes that its held into.

The oil is a little tiny thing that sucks once you open it, there is no way to close it. The squeegee is the cheap lil tippmann squeegee we all love =)

I reccommend getting a Hoppes 9 Deluxe Cleaning kit after the gun. It comes with a large bottle of oil that easily drops the oil where you want it, defogging spray for goggles, an interchangable 3 head squeegee(swab, disc, and slotted tip), a large cloth, some o-rings, and like 25 small cleaning squares. It loops onto your belt and is very easy to use on the feild or off. =)

Hope this all helps. If you are a newb or just dont know that much, hand around these forums and the ones at www.tippmann.com and you will learn so much...I have =)

Besides the gun w/all in the box, you want to get a CO2 tank (12 or 20 oz) or nitrogen if you want to spend that much. There is High Pressure Air but I dont know much about that. You wanna get a mask that will sustain the beating and covers you good.

After that all, if you still have some money or save some, get a barrel. The stock barrel sucks. I am getting a Tear Drop by Smart Parts, but I hear the Lapco BigShot is a good barrel too :)

arhh. Nitrogen and HPA are interchangable as far as paintball is concrened. A HPA tank will hold nitrogen but for the most part you will only fill it with HPA. um thats it.

Oh cool.
Another thing...N2 is better. It is more consistent, lasts long but costs more. CO2 as it comes to an end will become less consistent and shots wont go as far...N2 will go about the same distance and consistency till its almost out. I used N2 as a rental and like it =)

Thanks guys.

I am a newb but I think I know a little more than others, or at least I will keep telling myself that :p

I will be getting a decent mask, JT SpectraThermal Goggles.

I did not know it came with a squeegee, oil and plug, that is good to know. I was pretty sure about the hopper and elbow though.

I guess I will use that oil for when I polish all the parts and need to relube them. Sound good?

As for the tank.... I still don't know if I want a 12oz or a 20oz first. I like the light weight of the 12oz since the 98c is a fairly heavy gun to begin with. But I will eventually get both I think... What do you guys recommend for a tank?

First: that is a good mask. Another that is kinda close to matching its quality and doesnt cost quite as much is the PMI X-Ray...I got one w/ my gun in a package and it came w/ an anti-fog insert.

The oil kinda sucks like I said since its in a lil plastic tube. you might wanna get a larger bottle. You dont use the oil to 'polish' the gun but use a drop or two on the front bolt o-ring, the back-bolt o-right, and the linkage arm. Barrel and tank o-ring are optional(but recommended).

For a tank, I have a 12oz CO2. its lighter and im a smaller guy. You might not get as many shots, but not that much more with a 20 oz. If you play indoor where you dont shoot alot then a 12 will be fine, but if you play speed or woods, a 12 will work with one or 2 refills, or a 20 will suit you well w/only 1 refill max. Hope it works.

Like I said before just hang around these forums and you'll learn ALOT!(I didnt know half of the stuff I said above like a month ago)

Another thing you might consider is getting a 12oz and a 9oz for backup. I personally dont have both, but I see alot of people w/that set up and they pay less for refills. =)

I know you don't use the oil to polish, that is a steel wool/dremal job. But don't some of the parts that get polished require oiling after?

you shouldnt have to polish them i was a proud owner of a 98c and all you have to do is basiclly keep them well oiled and it should work beautifully

Yea just oil your o-rings/working parts/springs and everthing will work good. The oil will protect the o-rings providing longer life, the springs wont rust providing longer life and the working parts will move smoother (you guessed it) providing longer life. I recommend picking up an Oh Shoot kit or a first aid ok with front/rear bolts, springs, and other little peices that you could lose and will cause your gun to go out of wack if you dont have em lol

L337Clorox:

The pic in your sig, is that the stock hopper? Does it have any printing on it?

Do NOT use the squeegie that comes with the gun. It is thoughtful of Tippmann to include it, but alas, it sucks. Save yourself the misery and get a Jerk Squeegie or a Straight Shot squeegie for the extra 5 or so bones. The rest sounds good... looks like you're off to a good start.

Yes its the stock hopper. No writin on it.

Stock squeegee isnt THAT bad. I had to use it once when I broke a ball (but I wasnt in a game) and it cleaned the inside with one swipe.
