I just read this at warpig.com ;

"Friday afternoon saw a controversial game that will no doubt be the subject of conversation for years to come. Ground Zero Gold faced Avalanche in the preliminary rounds on the National Paintball Supply field, on the South edge of the tournament complex. After a few GZ players were eliminated, they stood in the dead box trying to figure out who had shot them. They had been hit in the back. GZ player Pete Utschig looked out in the woods and spotted some blond hair. He bolted from the dead box, and reportedly chased down and apprehended Jeremy Salm of Avalanche dressed in black, with a black paintgun.

Statements had been made prior to the game that Salm was ill, so Avalanche team owner and retired player Ed Poorman was playing in his place on Friday. The decisions that resulted from the game were that Avalanche forfeited their points for the game, was withdrawn from the tournament, and Salm would be suspended from NPPL/PSP tournaments for the 2003 season"

wow thats nuts, i wonder how man times it has been done? when u say the gpot hit in the back do u mean that they litterall got shot in the back or someone from the back side of the field (deep avalanche country) shot him, and if he was in the forest how did he get shot through the netting or did he run to the forest after he got discovered, damn im making a simple thing confusing

if you go and look at the pics of the feild layouts, there isnt any netting facing the woods, so he could be in the woods on the side GZ started and just took shots at them. pretty good idea for cheating, but you have to be really dumb or really fast to pull it off, either way its sad that Avalanche sucks so much that they have to do that. by the way, go read my story for comm class i wrote about paintball and tell me what you think, its in the stories section. thanks.

That is Fuc*ed up, I can't believe that it happend. Talk about hurting the sports credablity, when the pros do a thing like that what does it say.

This is nothing to joke about but you always hear talk of a paintball sniper, well I guess I was wrong there is such a thing.

Thats crazy, when teams try and do that they just end up ruining the sport. It says that Salm was banned from all future 2003 nppl/psp tournaments... which is good. Avalanche pretty much got screwed... I pretty much worship Cagnoni.. but now to know that he's on a team that would do something like that.... tsk tsk..

Hey my Friend got Ryan Greenspans autograph, his mom works as a security scanner person whatever their called, and she saw the whole dynasty team going through security and they were reading all these paintball magazines so she went over and talked to em and they told her to go talk to him (ryan greenspan) and he made an autograph out to em.. which is very cool :P

i dont see why they shouldnt. cheating is really gey and shows how dirty a team will play to win.
and when i talked with(briefly) and played with cagnoni he didnt seem like the type that would cheat. i dno, maybe it was the guy acting alone like the team said.

what i asked earlier in the forum but no1 answered was if there is a chance that this ever happened in the past, because avalanche was a somewhat dominate team i wonder if this has happened b4, plus how coud no1 see salm walkin around in all black? on top of that the giu from gz had to run prertt damn fast cuz the dead box looks to be about 75-100 yards away, all i have to sa is that i hope that the team wasnt in on this, id rather see avalanche pla again if it was trul a one soul act

I have to say, this is the dumbest stupidiset thing I have ever seen in the sport of paintball. I mean they must have been pretty desprate to shoot people like that. Why in the world, well, that's just really ***, wheather the team knew, or not, they should be still allowed to play, mainly because stuff like this happens, it was just one of them...two or three i woulda said they deserve it, but it's just one of them. I still support all the pro teams I watch (GO AFTERSHOCK!) but that was just real stupid...Even stupider than the d00d at my field who says he's got a 9 0z MaxFlow Nitro Bottle with Hydrogen Peroxide mixed in...and the one...well we won't even do there ;)

You guys should read the article at www.paintball.com
it says that the owner of the team talked to that a**hole and he said the team didn't know anything about it and I believe him. Avalanche plays at cpp sometimes and my friend knows em and we're shocked to hear this. I feel bad for the players who didn't know about this because their names are gonna get smeared over his. I think they should of banned him from paintball for the rest of his life and beaten him to death with a wiffle-ball bat. but that's just my 2 cents

I was just reading in my pball mag about him being to ill to play and now this... I would have reamed him out too. He deserves to get kicked off of the team. If any other team is out there... DON'T PICK HIM UP!!! I just got an Avalanche poster that I am looking at right now and was looking to buy some of their new sneekers. What I would hate to see is that the team knew about this and didn't say anything. But you guys say that they didn't. I sure hope that they didn't.

2 things have to happen before I will ever root for Avalanche or buy JT Products:

1)He MUST be kicked off the team! NO BS!

2)If aint kicked, JT should drop the sonsorship...if he stays and they dont drop the sponsorship, JT can never expect to get any of my business!

Dude, they allready said that they kicked him off the team. This really sucks for his teammates, his sponsors, and the sport of paintball. He represents everything that is wrong with paintball and should be banned from every field in the world!

There is no way in hell that Avalanche could have known about this. Lets face it, they weren't having a good year and had a lot of controversy coming into the world cup. From what I see they were actually playing real good and had a shot at the semis, but they wouldn't be dumb enough to actually think of something this idiotic as a team.
My biggest concern right now is what this can do to the sport. It may not affect it too much, but I'm really concerned about the way Disney can perceive this. We finally got them to take a look at this sport, and all of this controversy is now brewing.
Salm is off the team....that was a must. I really think that Avalanche has been punished enough for this, and take it out on Salm, not Avalanche...

DYE is Dave Youngblood's company. Dave Youngblood was the captain and founder of SC Ironmen. Avalanche has no DYE sponsorship, they are a JT team. Ed Poorman owns Warped Sports and Avalanche. Just a clarification

something i feel i must bring up is that there has been cheating in lots of sports and nothing bad has happened to the game, in hockey people use illegal sticks, baseball they use steriods and sticky baseballs, in football there has been sticky hands too. by saing that i feel that whether u cheat by wiping, cheat by shooting poeple out from forests, cheating is cheating just like any other thing in our life. in school u cheat on 1 question on ur test or u cheat on all of the questions u get the same punishment. all im saing is that paintball will not get too much heat over this. i feel what ed has done to fix the problem was the right thing to do

I sincerely believe that Avalanche COULD very well be telling the truth. I think other people, including Av, woulda noticed if Salm had been in the staging area, or anywhere near Av, dressed in all black loading up a black gun when everyone knew he was sick. Think about it. Someone woulda had to have seen that. Apparently, Salm never even entered Av staging areas, or let anyone on Av know of his presence. Someone woulda seen him. This leads me to say that Salm and Av did not have any contact the day of the event, meaning it could have easily been planned by Salm himself.....
so it is quite possible that some or ALL of Av is innocent. Till we find out, there's no point in dragging anyone through the mud except Salm.
He's gone off the team, but now everyone who plays Av is gonna "see" wiping, playing on, and playing dirty, whether they do or not.
As for Salm, good god, what a moron, dressing in all black, even going so far as to carry a black gun, but not even bothering with his hair?

*grumbles* I bet guys who dress in all black are gonna get crap from this as well now...

I honestly think this was Salms decsion, not the teams. Sucks he had to be dumb enough to do it though.

i believe that av had nothing to do with this too but i would like to know why salm did it, everyone knows avalanche is a great team and the shouldnt need to cheat, someone mentioned aftershock cheating, what have they done in the past, what happened to the team or the guilty players

It was just 1 member acting independantly. If he had collaborated, do you think he'd have gone quietly and not said he was put up too it?

well... i live 3 mins away from a warped sportz sub station (big retailer of their crap) avalanche was there like 2 months ago... and were SUPPOSED to b there early november. But i did go and meet the guys, they seemed nice enuh (not that it makes a diff)...
but im definatly thinking that it wasn't the whole team.... he should be banned from ALL future NPPL events, and prolly will in the long run. but i definately think avalanche has suffered enough from this.

YES, i will still proudly wear my warped sportz belt and hat... and i myte still buy that poster.

i myte juz hav 2 go talk 2 my "contacts" about this however hehe

Dude... the thread was dead and someone brought it back. And we weren't saying all of that about the team but about Salm, and the underlying fact that cheaters don't really have a place here in paintball. Cheating really puts a damper on the sport and those who play it don't like the ones who don't play by the rules. And if anyone tries to do anything that we said... then that's just as stupid as what Salm did (because that's against the rules and doesn't represent paintball in a good way).

Greg "Red" Hastings wrote some stuff on this that I found interesting. He has a much more indepth version of it, including Salm apparently firing at people without a mask on (Meaning he was near the field without a mask durring play).

It just sickens me, but I think that Salm won't be doing much in the world of paintball probably for several years to come, if that. And that in itself is justice.
