Theres no field near me, so i can't chronograph my marker, and I know a kid who has one but he's a ****face so i tend to stay away from him. Is there any way to set my marker fairy close to 270-300 without chronographing...or just using best judgement the only way to get an idea. I turned up the velocity on my marker quite a bit about a week ago and I was leaving welts on everyone. :\

measure out 300ft then shoot if it takes more than a second to hit it is under 300fps if it takes less it is more than 300fps
that is about the best thing you can do without a chrony

There's no way you'll be able to tell if ti takes one second for it to get there. Plus, it will lose speed because of the wind resistance, and 300 ft. is 100 yds! You're not going to have any idea where your paintball is by the time it gets that far. You'll just have to get it chronoed and leave it, or guess. You can buy chronos for around $50 bucks. Just buy your own.

The 300 feet thing will NOT work. Chronographs measure velocity near the end of the barrel. After the paintball travels 8 inches out of the gun, it starts losing speed very fast. If you somehow managed to shoot for 300 feet in one second, you would probably be shooting over 1000 FPS on a chrony.
For almost any gun, shooting at about 280 FPS (which is the normal field speed), you'll get about 70 feet of distance if you aim it straight. You cannot tell how fast the paint is going by distance alone, though. The only way to do that without a chrony is to develop an eye for it over time. After a while, you'll be able to tell about how fast a gun is shooting just by looking at how fast the ball flies in the first 30 feet or so.
In other words, you've gotta chrono it unless you've developed the eagle eye.

that is a very stupid idea! you will never be able to chrono your gun like that. Don't be an idiot, just chrono it the right way.
