View Full Version : The importance of a hopper cover

This isn't something that most players know about, so I thought it would be a good topic.

Sound is just as important as anything else in paintball, at least when I play. Many times I can hear people moving up because their paint shakes in their hopper, making a rattling noise. It's easy to pin someone down when you know where they are without even having to look for them.

Anyways, you know those hopper covers they make? They're made of the same material that people use to protect their tanks with. I don't think it causes paintballs to ricochet off of your hopper. Unless you get the camo version, it won't conceal your hopper. I don't think there's any advantage in insulating your hopper, either.

What it DOES do well is muffles your sound. Seriously. When you have a hopper cover on, that rattling sound is only half as loud, if even that. It really improves your stealth.

I suggest everyone gets one. They're only $7, and they can make a big difference.

They also help with the occasional bounce from the hopper. I have a nice one that I have sewn my ghille stuff on for those great scenario games. I just wish that I could use them during a tourney. My hopper has the nickname of "Ball Magnet"

You can find them at http://www.acepaintball.com and http://www.paintballdiscounters.com

Make sure that you get the kind that will fit your hopper. I think they make different types for the Revolution so they'll fit over the motor.

Guesswho?

That sounds cool, i never knew about that, but the sound doesnt give me away.I painted camo on my hopper with a big yellow Smiley face on it, the poeple i play with say they always see that face and know where i am.

The kid was all mad, it was funny.

ya i never really thought of those til i saw the august APG they had a company that makes in it. i suggested one for my dad because his hopper is easily visible (blue 12v) when playing on a woods course.
i never thought about the sound part, does it just quite the balls moving or would it make the motor a little quiter too?

However I don't think you can use them in tournaments you can only use tank covers if I'm not mistaken.

Yes, I think for the same reason you're not allowed to wear bulky clothes: it encourages bounces.

Yeah, we were playing around like a year ago in an outlaw game (big field, about 30 people), and someone shot this kids hopper, the ball went through, and busted against the others, gumming 'em all up. Everyone immediately began yelling at him about shooting hot, so he chronoed, at a steady 270 fps.

I have a smoke colored gem series 12v revvy. I like the smoke becuase it appears black to other players, but i can actualyl see how much paint i have in it. do they make a clear paintball cover or something so that i can still see the balls through the hoppers plastic?
