Hey all
It has come. I have dreaded this moment, but here it is anyway. I have reached the point where I either upgrade or pretend I am happy with what I have. I have a M98C that is tricked out pretty seriously, but after handling my brothers Impy, I want an electro. And I want one that is cheaper than $450. This is where the M3 Sniper comes in. Do I sell my gear and switch markers (purchasing a few upgrades, of course :D ), or just chill with my current set up. I play infrequently, but I like to have nice stuff when I do play. Rentals are in my nightmares...so renting is definitely out.
Or just sell all my gear and buy Enron stocks?
I just wondered what you guys thought of this whole ordeal. I will not take offense to any comments either, :) .

If you like the Imp so much, why not buy one. The college packs at www.e-paintballoutlet.com are probably the best deals on the Imp anywhere. They're like $450 and $480 each (correct me if i'm wrong), and come with a good amount of aftermarket parts (complete lpr setup, trigger).

Imps are SWEET markers, but too rich for my college cheapo @zz. I'll just borrow my brothers...;) For the amount I play (once a month mebbe) a $500 setup is a little much. IMO. Thanks for the input though.
My bro's Impy is from those guys...great place to get Imps. The price is about what he paid too. But he plays quite a bit more than I do.

The black dragun basic has all you really need....great semi only trigger, metal trigger frame, semi-low pressure, regulator, etc. Only problem is way higher recoil than an impulse.
I'd get that with a delrin bolt and eggo2 at paintballgateway.com (maybe a new barrel too) because it's all you really need and with the "high end" black draguns you don't really get anything else important. A delrin bolt should help reduce pressure and recoil, which is the marker's only major flaw.
Or get a used impulse. All they need is anti-siphon co2 and maybe a trigger mod or tapeworm. The stock barrel is even really good.

Uh, guys,
Not to be facetious, but I wondered about the Sniper (or similar) compared to my M98. Not Imps. My bro keeps me full of Imp info. I know about e-paintball outlet prices, but $400+ is too much. Any suggestions about cheaper electros?
Thanks for the info, policar. I am considering those as well now.

ok first of all i dont want this to offend any bd owners but this is just my opinion in my past experiences. if you shot an impulse and expect to get the same performance out of a black dragun you will be disipointed, the impulse is just much more smoother, more consistant,lp,accurate stock. now im not sayin bd's are bad there great guns its just when both guns are stock the bd cant compare to the imp and if u were to upgrade the bd so it woudl be similar to the impulse you could have just paid the 450 for the impulse, and have been more satisfied.

Well, you can get an Autococker at www.paintballgear.com for about $310. Right now they have a special that all Vert 2k2 Autocockers come with a hinge trigger wjich is a sweet deal.

stock cocker wont compare to a stock impulse either, hinges are junk(imho) and once again to put some upgrades on the cocker to make it shoot like the impulse you could have already bought the imp then. and it sounds like he wants an electro

I also agree with Cockerkid. An impulse is just better stock. Their great guns.

A good cheap electro is the ICD BKO. They cost about $275 and are electro-pneumatic. You can get that at paintballgear too.

yes deffinatly a better deal than any blowback with an eframe, imo true electros are always better and especially this gun since its at such a cheap price.

Used stock impulses, I've seen them for as low as 200, 250 or so for a good one is pretty possible. They're so sweet!
And as for hinges sucking, no they don't but they're aren't electro fast I agree and some really are better than others. The stock imp has a sucky trigger though in all honesty for an electro. Black dragun is much nicer in terms of the trigger.

Used impulses? I've seen them here, automags.org and pbnation for about that price. My friend got an older one for 200 which worked great (besides chopping a bit which I think was his halo's fault).
Actionvillage.com also sells refurbs on their auction page, where I got my 2k2 vert feed cocker with bottomline for 260 dollars this june.

Thanks for all the info guys. Keep it coming.
As for the BKO, IIRC it feeds off of Nitro. And not currently owning a Nitro tank adds a little extra cost to the gun. No sense getting a $275 marker but not being able to play w/o a $200 tank. Yes, I know there are cheaper ones, but for what I would want (68/4500) it's about $200. For that price ($475 total) I could get an Imp with some serious upgrades, and still use my 20oz anti-siphon.
A used Imp is a definite contender now, I had no idea they could be bought for so little. Mebbe I'll just sell my rifle and get a Project Rat....:P
Cocker Kid 2k2: I know that a BD's performance is quite a bit under even a stock Imps. The price difference and fun factor (read: Diff. firing modes) are why I lean towards a sear-tripper. I just don't play enough anymore to put a Pro-grade gun to good use.
Caustic: The Stars and Stripes is a good marker also, but the colors are just not me. I would be the dude with an all black and grey marker in black jersey or fatigues. Not a real flashy fellow here.

I started with a Model98, bought a second one for loaning to friends/family, sold both and bought a Shocker, sold that Shocker and bought another Shocker with an Angel frame, sold that and bought an Angel LCD. Ahhhhh..... recently sold THAT and purchased a M3 Sniper which should arrive any day.
I'm not expecting the Sniper to be a Shocker or Angel or Impulse but I am expecting it to be way better than a Model98. Actually, I bought a used 68/4500 MaxFlow to use on the Sniper (laugh all you want!) in hopes it will perform NEARLY as good as an Impulse. An Impulse performs nearly the same with the exception of an air driven hammer instead of a spring/blowback. I would expect the Impulse to have less recoil/kick and be more consistent, but otherwise perform similarly.
Once I get the equipment and get it setup I'll post my opinions about the marker here.
I do have to say I find it silly that a cheap M3 marker has a functional LCD, timers, yadda yadda when more expensive markers such as the Smart Parts markers don't. C'mon, everything has LCDs now! Even cheap toys that come with McDonalds Happy Meals! I found the game timer useful on my Angel during tourneys. Hopefuly the M3 LCD is actually useful.
BTW don't buy a marker because there's 100's of upgrades available. In general upgrades are a waste of money. They typically don't do much for performance and by the time you buy the cheaper marker and invest in upgrades you could have just bought the more expensive marker.
A.C.I.D.
11-05-2002, 08:04 PM
Yeah, I agree with you on the Sniper's performance versus an Imps performance. Not quite the same, but close enough for the dough you are shelling out.
I have messed around with BD LCDs (same grip and firing modes) and there is a game timer, shot counter, and auto-off options. You can also play with the b.p.s. settings; the safety is also actuated by the grip. There is no external/mechanical safety; barring barrel condoms and the like.
Upgrades are that overrated? I figured they helped a bit, but not a crazy huge amount. Guess it all depends on what you want. Do you want a BD that shoots fast, or a BD plus dozens of upgrades that shoots two b.p.s. faster. Personal preference.

no, its not if it were than nobody would spend the xtra 250 to get an impulse, impulses are by far better guns than the sniper

I was just reading rav3n's post and it says that the tippmanns don't have enough stuff to upgrade. I don't know if you were drunk when you wrote that or what but the tippmanns are specifically designed to be upgraded and have a plethora (yes I know that's a weird word) of upgrades available for them.

Not really because I didn't in the first place. I just disagreed with your opinion by giving mine. You stated that hinges suck, which was your opinion. My opinion is that they don't. I actually think that it can be said that hinges don't suck as a fact because so many people have bought them and they come stock on so many cockers now. I agree they're not for everyone, in fact a lot of people really don't like them, but they don't suck, so back off.

acid, get a used mag dude. they go for around 250, 275 for the gun, drop, tank, loader, and 2 or 3 barrels. mag deals r really good and cheap. i remember buying my mag for 250 with 2 barrels, pb drop, and 2x trigger frame. it would have been 300 with a 45/3000!n2 tank :eek:
if ur lookin for something that wont make u broke, go for a nice used mag. check in pbn, here, and automag.org forums. they go for cheap, and r good, realiable guns, and built to last. i even put mine in the dishwasher to clean it:D

Okay, whatever.
Some people don't like hinges, some do, but for most people they are faster than sliders in most cases. You happy?
Also, I've tried hinges I like and ones I don't like and sliders I've liked more than others. So don't generalize, hinges may work the same way but they all feel very, very different.

BUY THE SNIPER DUDE THEY SHOOT FAST AND LOOK NICE , I SOLD ALL MY HIGH END GUNS AND GOT ONE. SURE ITS NOT AS NICE AS MY BUSHY AND NOT AS SEXY AS MY COCKER BUT THE PERFORMANCE DIFFERENCE IS VERY SMALL AND I GOT 800 BUCKS EXTRA IN MY POCKET.
BY THE WAY THE ONLY DIFFERENCE IS CONSISTENCY. MY SNIPER IS FASTER THAN MY BUSHY WAS ITS JUST THE BUSHY HAD A VELOCITY DEVIATION OF +- 7FPS AND MY SNIPER IS +-10-20 FPS. I DONT PLAY TOURNEYS SO I COULD GIVE A RATS ARSE. I CHRONO AT 280 AND AND IT JUMPS AROUND BETWEEN 260-300 BUT ITS SO FAST THAT I CAN DUMP MORE THAN ENOUGH PAINT TO MAKE UP FOR ANY ACCURACY LOSS.

something must have been messed up with ur cocker and bushy, because every dragun iv shot really shot about half as good as the other high end guns iv shot (but draguns cost half the price so it evens out iv shot bushy's i own a cocker and no dragun around here will be outperforming my cocker any time soon

give me a break on the caps thing i didnt realize people got pissed because a message is typed in caps. as for spamming come on spamming is the act of sending unwanted messages without provocation. he asked our opinion so therefore my message was solicited so its not spam.
i also never said anything about a dragun being better quality than cockers im just saying they are faster. dont even try to tell me your cocker is faster than any electro. cockers are faster than any other mechanical semi but not anything with an electronic trigger

:P Dude, just get the sniper. I love mine. It sounds like all you want to do is go out and have fun, so get the cheaper gun and go at it. I've shot angels, bushys, and cockers, and I'll admit, they are very nice guns, but the only big differences between them and the sniper are consistency, smoothness, and price. If all you're going to do is play rec, then get a cheapy.
As for the rest of you, I think you should stick to the topic at hand. Everyone has their opinoin of hiinges, tippys, and spamming, but this thread is hear to help out acid.:P

I my opinion, I think you should just get a Sniper. Not the ones out now but the ones soon to come out with the fade anodizing. You said you don't play often, or at tourney level so the Sniper will be a good compromise. Even if you do play in some tourneys down the line, you will have a solid gun.
The quality on M3 guns is good and the price will leave the option of having upgrades. Impulses are great, but after spending 400 just on it, there will be hardly any money left for anything else. Please take in consideration: For the impulse to become the fast firing beast, it must get a lot of upgrades. With money saved getting a Sniper, you can get spare parts and upgrades for it. Hope this helped.:eyes:
They are in stock at www.xpaintball.com. $235 though:rolleyes: Also the blue to black isn't there, only red to black and orange to black.

Actually the Imp preforms great stock. Aftermarket barrel, maxflow, etc are included out of the box. The Imp is probably one of the best stock perfomers out there. True you do need at least a revy, but you'll need one for any electro you get. You'll also need anti-siphon if you use CO2. I used my imp stock for a couple months when I first got it, still preformed great.
