I am not really new to paintball, but I have yet to walk-on at any field. Usually we play wiht a group of friends in the woods by our old school or we rent a feild for a large group. I really want to start playing more now and wa wondering how people ract to waalk-ons? I am a rec playre who is a woodsball fanatic and want to get into scenarios/big games.

Honestly, I am a normal guy who isn't going t ruffle feathers, but I am not going to get bossed around by some ex-seal looking for the regiment command he never got!
I am a farily good player, who will only get better with more time on the field, so any opinions, suggestions, recommendations...

THansk!

I just do walk ons and no one cares sometimes they even need another person so it works out.

I've walked on a few times and never had a problem. I just always ask the group if I can join in before a game starts.

I haven't had any problems with "arm-chair" generals trying to boss me around when I have walked on in the past. Just the normal pregame talk, they say what side they are taking, you say waht side you are taking, a few nods and it's on.

I treat walk-ons as much as I treat anyone else on the field, regulars, teammates, or anyone at all. I don't care if he plays particularly well, as long as he acts decent, doesn't swear like a Nelly album, and doesn't cheat. I'll give him cover fire, give orders for it when I need it, and I make it clear beforehand that if he needs cover fire, he should TELL not ASK me and he'll get it. I get out there with 4 or five different people each time and play against the same mix, I have a job to do and I'll do what needs to be done if it's lead, follow, or get out of the way to do it, and everyone playing on my side knows that before we start.
End of the game, I'll give feedback and take it because Lord knows I'm far from the best out there, and be freindly. When the game is on though, it's all about the game, not about the people I'm playing it with. If I get stuck with a bunch of newbs that never played before, and the whistle blows, then I do my best and realize I have limited time to work with before I'm left by my lonesome. If I have Angel packing paint hauling people who like to rain paint, they have enough experince they play like I do. A business,a job to do out there..and to have fun doing it! If I have to give a walk on I've never met or maybe even had time to talk to before I get on the field a pod of paint to help win the game, I do it. It's the game, and if I think it will contribute to our winning that game...hell, the $6 of paint I just shot isn't going to be worthless.
My field reacts warmly to walk-ons and we welcome and talk with them in the staging area till they cheat or do something unsportsmanlike, in which case we generally get about as cold as Hillary Clinton in Alaska.
Go out there and play 'ball. If you need cover fire, tell someone exactly what you need. If you see they want to move or make it known to you, give them their cover fire and tell them to GO NOW!
Believe me, we aren't worried about someone telling us "You can go now if you like"...if someone says "GO NOW" all we worry about is getting to that bunker and we'll let you know we're grateful for the cover during or after the game.
Play it like they do....if they play it like a business..like a job..then lead, follow, or get out of the way if it means you win. Sometimes, thogh, we all screw around out there and we'll joke and cut up and just have fun while we shoot at each other...if that's the case, then feel free to do that. If I play against a teammate, I'll cut up on him and joke with him while we exchange shots. If it's a serious game though, then it's on.

I am with your guys sentiments. I have played with walk-ons and me and my buddies treat everybody the same. I just have never gone to a field by myuslef and was wondering what some of you others here might think of that. I am all about the team no matter if we are grossly outclassed. I just want to lay some paiint on somebody and have a good time doing it.

And Ebon I think you put it best when you stated that you gotta be forceful when the game is on b/c there is no time for dilly-dallying.

i play almost exclusivly(sp?) walk-on...

most of those do-what-i-say-because-i'm-big-and-cool people get ignored when i play... after a few games people just start doing their own thing... and mr. do-what-i-say-because-i'm-big-and-cool either shuts himself up... or ignores us...

I ref part-time at a local field, I know first hand that walk ons are always welcome. Go in with a positive attitude and the expectation of having fun and I'm sure you will not regret it.

if people dont treat you cool, you have some sucky fields...

all the fields around here are cool... no mater how much the people sucks they dont get yelled at, unless he's my little cousin and Im yelling at him

But mabye Washingtonians are just cool like that.

just find a good field and you should be fine....
