Uh...the bolt moves back in every paintball gun except the Ice epic.

It is where the bolt is located when a paintball is fired. Is the bolt stationary or moving.

A blow-back is a paintball gun that has the bolt open and behind the feed port when its at rest.

I'd suggest a Custom 98 over most spyders. I think the Custom 98 is the best buy for under $300.

The Custom 98 is just as accurate as a Spyder, and is much more reliable, durable, and has better, more inexpensive upgrades. It has a better trigger, and it's trigger frame is better too. It also comes with wraparound rubber grips, which are really nice. It's stock sight is adjustable for distance, and you don't have to remove the barrel to squeegie the gun. You don't ever need to replace elbows, because it's built into the Custom 98. It also has a built in foregrip. You also won't lose the cocking pin like you can on a Spyder.

The only advantages the Spyder has is this:
- You can field strip a Spyder easier than a Custom 98. However, the Custom 98 doesn't need to be stripped nearly as often, because it's much more reliable.
- It's a little shorter than a Custom 98, which is makes it easier to tuck in to bunkers.
- It's a little lighter than the Custom 98, but this is because the parts are made cheaper.
- A boo-yah electronic frame is cheaper for a Spyder than an electronic trigger kit is for a Custom 98.

Tippman's customer service is also far superior to Kingman's.

Here's how they stack up on possible upgrades:

BOTH CAN TAKE:
New bolts, internals, barrels, rear-cocking kits, expansion chambers, drop-forwards, Full-Auto kits (Booyas for Spyder, and electronic trigger for Custom 98), and new trigger frames (although the Custom 98 doesn't need a new one, but the Spyder does).

SPYDER CAN TAKE:
Boo-Yah frames (although a tippman can take an electronic trigger. But, the electro-trigger is more expensive.)

CUSTOM 98s CAN TAKE:
The Flatline Barrel System (It's in a different barrel category)
Reactive Trigger kits
Drop-in double trigger kits (for only $20!)
Electro Trigger Kits (the tippman equivalent of the Boo-Yah)
Rocket Cock (yeah, I know it sounds nasty...)
Low Pressure Kits (for nitro)
Drop-forwards, without having to buy a new trigger frame, like a Spyder.

I probably am forgetting some stuff.

Overall, I think the Custom 98 comes out as the winner.

If you're willing to to spend $325, you could get the AutoCocker, which is MUCH better than any gun around or below it's price. Go to www.paintballgeeks.com to get one for cheap.
