Okay so Saturday was my first day actually playing paintball but I have been on the forum for about a year so I know my fair share of useless paintball knowledge as my mom tells me. So Im playing and I have the time of my life playing with a Stingray. When I got home I knew this was what I wanted to spend my money on. So I looked around for guns to buy and I found two which really stood out as a good deal. I found a Spyder Xtra in a package deal for around 200. Then I found a Spyder E-99 in a package deal with a battery and a charger for around 200 as well but it was a bit more expensive. Should I spend the money for a the better marker. Or start with a worse marker and upgrade. Both come with Warrantys so if I mess either of them up with newbie mistakes I can get the parts I need. Now here you come into play Should someone who is new buy a learner gun and learn by him/herself, or should someone buy a more advanced gun and let the gun teach him what to do? What should I DO!?!
Thanks

There is no one answer. You can poll all you want, and sure you'll even get various results as to what is recommended. But, you have to remember, all these votes are from completely different individuals. There is no one perfect marker all around. For anyone looking to buy their first or even next marker, you should ask yourself these three simple things...
1. How long and far do I, the player, plan on sticking with Paintball? (basically concerning ones seriousness and commitment to the sport)
2. :taking #1 into account: How much money am I willing to spend on my new marker? (Especially considering future costs like field admission, paint and parts/repair)
3. :This is a two part: What kind of player am I now or am I going to end up being? (What is your game of choice, do I like to play something like Speedball or more towards the Scenario end of the spectrum? Are you planning on being a front player or back player)
A lot of people ask the same question, "what should my first/next marker purchase be?" No one answer will really do. My best advice for your first marker would be a rental, play with a rental for a day so-as to get an idea for what the game you wish to play demands. Later on you can speculate as to your personal needs and wants from a marker. I met a guy at my local field who's been playing for 5-6 months, his first marker of choice was a high end Cocker, he figured he had the money, so he felt his first marker should be high priced to get the best out of the game, it will make him a better player right?. Nope, He later told me, if he could have made a different decision, he would have brought a Tippmann first. I'm not saying the higher end markers are bad, I'm just saying that for every marker, there is a person it belongs to best. Good luck with the purchase.

Well first things first, i just want to say that you are prolly the smartest newbie i have ever met. Before buying a gun let alone playing, you spent a year on these forums picking up general knowledge. I bet there arent any more people who have done the same as you, your really gunna be off to a better start because of that.
Now for the gun issue, if i were you, i would go for a mechanical semi first( which would the the xtra) because when you do, you have no obligation to buy an agitated hopper, or a new tank or a lot of paint or any of that stuff. Dont start off too big, just take it easy, move up over time. Im sure you'll like it more that way.
Well good luck with your marker choice and your future of paintball, prepair to get addicted :|

maybe get an e99, but u can get package deals much cheaper.... www.paintballgateway.com look in the gun marker section for e99, not the package section.... also warranty does not cover what u mess up on your own if upgrading

also, to what cocker kid said, that is true, but i started with an xtra, and now im upgrading it alot, but i should of just started with an e99, because they are the same price.. and i can save my self the money of getting an electro frame which at the moment i just spent 100 for a used mako storm frame with new chrome grips
