What is the best gun and mask for a sniper?

Sniping REALLY doesn't work that well in paintball. The technology isn't really there yet. With the Flatline, we're getting closer.
For any paintballer I'd recommend a JT or Scott thermal mask, a 20 ounce CO2 tank, and a Tippman Custom 98. If you can afford a new barrel, a CP (Custom Products) barrel is good ($50), but the All-American ($80) is better.
If you're really into the whole sniper thing, get everything I said above, but get a Flatline barrel. It's got some problems sometimes on CO2, it's fairly noisy, and you can't use it for speedball, but it goes three times as far as any other barrel or any other gun. It's only for the truly hardcore, lazy-assed snipers, because you can't use it for anything else.
If you want the BEST OF THE BEST, then get the AutoCocker! The gun is $325 at http://www.paintballgeeks.com (the best price you'll find), but it shoots better with the stock barrel than any other gun with a GREAT barrel for under $500. It won't shoot as far as the Flatline, but it's much better in almost every aspect.

the best mask in my opinion for sniping is the diablo skull. it allows to see more around you and yea you can snipe in paintball sniping doesnt mean that you have to shoot someone 2 miles away. its just a person stalking someone and being in stealth. the best gun i would recommend would be depending on wat you are. if your spotting your sniper partner get an autococker or if your actual sniper get a phantom or maverick.

This is true. You need to figure what you wan't when you mean 'snipe'. If we are talking about rec games, you'll be lucky to get the time to set up a position, it just won't work.
If you wanna do scenario games, ghillie suits and ambushes then you might have a better "sniper" experience. Aswell as a mask you might wanna consider a skin to put on it, to eliminate any glare.

leper,
when you think sniper you think someone shooting a person at a long distance. yes your right this cant be accomplished in paintball but actually we just call ourselves snipers because were in stealth , use some of the same tactics as them and still shoot people at somewhat of a distance if you still arent convinced check out http://www.paintballzone.com and talk to the guy who made the site his name is squeegie.

the fun is that you can stalk a person without them knowing your there. then nailing him in any spot you want to and they dont even know where it came from.

I think sniping works in paintball. Not super long distance or anything, but you can snipe all the same. The key I think is to have a gun that doesn't make a lot of noise. To be a sniper you can't have the other team know where you are or else there's no point to it. Tippmanns aren't too loud, and if you really want to you could probably find a way to make a silencer. As for what mask you should get, I don't think it really matters that much, just don't get one that fogs up, and get one that fits. Also, camo would be good to wear, and to put on your mask.
actually everyone sniping is shooting someone from a concealed position without them knowing about it. its not about hitting people from long ranges or anything. Anyway, i think the best mask you could use is a diablo skul and the best gun is one that has good accuracy like the phantom, maverick, or autococker.

Sure thing, I think that FSU Paintball said that it doesn't really work all that well, not that it can't be done at all.
What I was trying to point out is that in a small, 15 min rec game you will be lucky to get any sniping in. You might be able to get a few kills from sneaking up if its a big field, but I think that in general proper sniping is at it's best in a scenario game.
Personally I wouldn't mind being called a sniper, I think it associates itself with accuracy (yes, I know there's more to it that that) but I'm sure most people you ask in the street will say 'one shot, one kill' or something to that extent.

Well how much do you want to spend?
For long range I would go with a marker with a flatline barrel. This usually means the custom 98
Mask... get something with a thermal lens. Besides that, there are no differences between the goggles that front players use and what snipers use.
ill tell you the best mask for cheap got to wal-mart and get you a brass eagle maxx vision there just sweet and they have good vision and great protection they also only cost 23$ and just cause B.E. make it dont means it sux they also make good pull squiges :D

There is sniping in paintball to all of you newbies. The best gun for that specialization is WGP Sniper II. This is what the autococker is based off of. Basically this is a cocker without the front pneumatics. They are accurate, they are reliable, and they are excellent for sniping.
Mask is your choice. Any mask is fine. Pick what one is comfortable to you. You are the one who is wearing it. Don't listen to the other people. You go for what you want.

Sniping in paintball is mainly hiding and not being found. Snipers hide in bushes and stuff and if you are good enough at hidding than the enemy can advance close enough for you to get an easy shot of and them not see you. Sound is a big give away, probably the quitest barrel out is the stone cold II but thats only because it is 20" long, the longer the barrel the quiter it is. So a stone cold II barrel is good for sniping if you have the money. I don't know what guns are very accurate but I think that my Piranha STS g2 is pretty accurate. And as far as mask, just get a mask with a good field of view.

The best barrel is obviously the flatline...so put that on an autococker and you have a flatline autococker.
The BEST gun for sniping. The best mask is a personal choice. Check out the flatline autococker at http://www.worr.com

You can use anygun for sniping, but what counts is the barrel. Try a rifled barrel, it may help your accuracy. But be warned, they are picky about paint.

Seems like every type of board has its newbie problems...
Well I may be a newbie as my title says but I have been playing for quite some time now. Since I was 10 and so 1/3 of my life :)
As for a good gun for sniping I Personally don't think too higly of the flatline. Sure they go farther BUT they aren't very fast and you can easily dodge them. For a sniper you want a nice accurate and quite gun and barrel. Accuracy in a gun is owned by the Phantom stock. Dont quite know how it will do against a sniper which is basically a pump autococker since I have never played with one, but the Phantom is accurate as hell. But if you want a quite gun you might want to see if you can find a super nova. The company did go out of business but the gun is the quite'ess(is that even a word?) thing I have ever heard. Put a nice accurate barrel on it like the freak or a riffled barrel and you will have a perfect semi sniping gun. But with that gun you are gonna have a hard time finding parts since the company no longer exists.

This might just be a grevious error on my part, but I don't think it'd be that simple:
This is a quote from http://www.p8ntballer.com/techroomcontent/Nova700.shtml
"The Nova comes with a brass-lined 11" barrel as standard and this is one of the few areas that the gun slips up in. This is not due to the quality of the stock barrel that comes with the Nova, far from it; it’s actually very accurate and the material selection of brass means that it also has a high level of self-cleaning properties and reduced friction. The problem is that this barrel is like no other barrel, and is a much more integral part of the actual firing mechanism of the whole gun. So you can see the problem – changing the barrel is no simple thing any more, which really limits the main upgradeable area of all guns."

Exactly Nova parts are totally different from anything you can find now, so that would make it nearly impossible to get those on it but you can always "modify" them yourself.

what you need is an SL-68 II. its durable, reliable and accurate. all you have to do is polish the barrel. i am getting an sl-68II. i am using a 45 round hopper, 12 ounce tank with butt plate, a 1x-4x scope and am building a silencer. i have everything, all i need is the gun. then i plan on getting some real tree or advantage camo tape and making the gun camo. i might just build a gun ghillie though. then next too come will be a regulator on the tank so i can get a more consistant shot. let me know what you think.
