I'm going to be getting a digital camera either hopefully tomorrow or Saturday via an ebay auction. My question to you guys/gals is: what can I do to protect this expensive camera from taking direct paintball hits and probably ruining the camera? Does anyone here use a digital camera to take pictures of paintball games?

The model that I will be getting is the Kodak DX4900. Here is the link:
http://kodak.com/global/en/digital/easyShare/dx4900/dx4900.jhtml

Also, in the future I will possibly be getting a camcorder with an lcd screen(need it for filming paintball!). Any thoughts on that?

I was thinking of something along the lines of plastic, so I can still take pictures through it....

Thanks!

i dont know where youd buy them at, or if they have one for your camera, but when i was in peurto rico, i went scuba/snorkeling and the company that hosted it had like a water proof casing thing. it was pretty cool. you might be able to use that.... il see if i can find out where/what it was from my bro later on.

hmm use a mask... or a home mad case like a card board box...
mask is better
if something like that gets hit it might be the end of it

yeah, i dont know how well it would hold up to a close shot, but i think it would do pretty good other wise, sense its made for depths it should be some pretty strong plastic to begin with.

I used to use a Nikon D1 digital and Nikon N80 (both highend SLR cameras) when I was freelancing for Crossfire. Basically, you're gonna get hit if you're shooting on the field. Thankfully, Nikons are built like tanks, so the cameras didn't sustain any damage.

You're situation is a little different. You'll definitely need to keep the paint from getting on your camera and lens. I'd suggest putting inside a ziplock freezer bag. You can cut a hold in it for the lens. However, I don't know how much impact you're camera will take. And, unfortunately, there's no safe area on the field to shoot from. So, my best advice is to be VERY CAREFUL. I doubt the warranty would cover damage from a paintball.
