This was taken off the Spikes page which is the field Roddy runs in PEI first off someone asked him this....
Where do you think our NPPL team should apply the majority of it's focus? NPPL's new super 7 or stick with PSP/Xball?
I like the idea of gravitating to Xball, but the Super 7 seems more appealing to AM teams.
Just curious what your boys are focusing on, and which one you think will become the cream of the crop.
And then Roddy of The All A's Responded:
Well now that was a good question. Well since Im on the rules commitee I get to know the inside scoup on whats going on in our sport. It doesnt hurt either that Billy Gardner is my roommate. Now X Ball is the next wave. Now the prpblem for the promoters was how to do 225 teams at the World Cup. Gery Braun figured it out at X Ball in Disney a few weeks ago. Now all the promoters had a secret meeting, the promoters being. Gardners, Youngblood, Renick Miller, Ed Poorman, Jery Braun, Richmond Itallia and in charge of the Millanium series Laurant from the Ton Tons. We could never bring the Euros in the fold because they have the same problem as Canada. The talent is to far away from each other to ever be successfull. Now with X Ball everyone was happy. Next year it will be all X Ball............ yes thats right.....not 10 man.....or 7 man in the Millanium series. Only X ball..... Its true. The NPPL is in a position either get on board or get left on the side of the road. Now your head is spinning now I bet. Your say no 10 men............... One game of X Ball was worth 10 games of the old 10 man format of the NPPL. When we beat Dynasty at Disney they were the most exciting games that I have ever been involved in....... hope this helps roddy
Hope you enjoy that I may post this in the general forum to as more people visit there and it is pretty important.

What are the basics of the X-BALL format? Mainly how many on the field per team, and what makes it so exciting?

there is a big crowd, loud cheering, lots of noise, excitment, scoreboard, announcer, quarter or halfs, just liek a real sport if paintball wants to go mainstream x-ball is the way to go!

tony some people might agree with u and some not. Some people don't like the format of x ball. the question is that how our sport should be prosented to the publics eye? or should the tournament format go or xball go ? Some people like the tounry format it is not shooting off like xball is in popularity. I like x balls idea of trying to get the sport out there but it might be taking away from the tourny format. The problem with this is people are trying so many different ways of trying to play paintball. Centerflag, capture the flag, tounry, woods, xball. Which one to choose?? Or should they have different classes of paintball? So many decisions? I like someone should stop and think about the prons and cons on what xball is doing. Should this be the sport of paintball??? or should it be something else? One will come out that shows how people should play paintball but is that the right choice? is xball the answer? that is your opinion ;)

ok after going to this years world cup and seeing this so called "great x-ball" i hate i cant stand and it makes me want to take my team as far away from it as possible, the rules are stupid, along with this new great idea of sideline coachin??? WTF is that sideline bull**** isnt paintball thats straight up cheatin and for crowds im all for them but they do not need to yell out things to players on the field paintball's world cup was made for the best of the best teams in every divison to play against one another and see who comes out in first by their own individual talents not the sideline coach or the fans playin 50% of the game for them.IMO X-BALL CAN BLOW A ****

if ur pro x-ball is the way to go, but if ur Amature, novice, or rookie and u dont gotta a huge paint sponser, then it's just too much money. i think that all the pros r gonna wanna go wit x-ball just cause that is the only format that can make paintball main-stream. if ur amature, novice, or rookie then u wanna go wit super 7 probally, unless chuck some how really f**ks up the league.

i see what you mean x-ball is one way to get the pubilc to see paintball as a real sport that is played competively, paintball still needs to drop the whole camo and war look and get rid of the military style guns, then we woould be on the right track

ive never seen xball being played but it sounds good in some cases yet horrible in another...
sideline coaching - wtf?!?! thats ridiculous...that would take out the sneaking and bunkering portion out of the game. it would also make the game less exciting...i love seeng people run around a prop looking for eachother.
Crowds - great! the yelling part sucks tho. maybe they should make it so the crowds arent close enough to yell positions out
Scoreboards - all of that is good. it makes it easier to keep track of the game. it will also make it more competitive and people will learn the scoring rules faster. like in football, when you see a team score and 6 points comes up, you figure getting the ball into the endzone is 6 points. when a ball is kicked and scores, its 3 points on the scoreboard. same concept

Now i dont know why but that coaching idea makes me really mad, that just takes all the fun away from paintball if you ask me, the whole idea is to not know whats going to happen next, instead of having some guy yelling that they're going to get bunkered. If they get rid of the coaching thing then xball sounds great but with the coaching in its just gunna make the game a lot less fun.

paintball almost seems like it shouldnt be a spectator sport, its just no spectator friendly, thats my opinion but i would love for it to go main stream, i think a good way for rec is to haev air and woods fields together, that would be pimp:cool:

i think paintball is fun to watch. Just don't watch games that don't have a time limit. they are borring. That is why speedball is a good spector sport not woods.

The ignorance is astounding. Unless you are on the field, you have no idea how effective the coacing or the crowd is. they have 1 coach, but the fans can chear whatever they want...even positions, etc. You'd be surprised how difficult it is to hear the fans or your coach while in the middle of the game. Everything drowns itself out. You have no idea how little you actually hear. The coach is only able to prowl a quarter of the sideline (baseline to 50). People on the other side of the field have no idea what is going on. Meanwhile fans can yell whatever they want. Sometimes its accurate, sometimes its not. Remember they want to see someone get shot, so they set up ambushes. It is really hard to understand what they are saying anyways. While it changes the game, it is not in a bad way. Try it before you knock it...there is nothing like having the crowd erupt as you bunker a guy.
When the crowd yells that it doesnt change a thing. In all of X ball, i dont think i saw an unsuccesful bunker move. You guys dont realize how difficult it is to actually understand what is being yelled from the crowd. All you hear is loud mumbles because everyone is yelling something else. I bunkered multiple people, and the crowd was yelling that i was, but i never got shot out.
Try it befor eyou knock it

how are teams supposed to practice ? At my rinky dink field im sure we couldnt get a score board, air ball bunkers or anything

A lot of fields have air ball. AS for the scoreboard, that is more for the fans, and can be done without for the players.

xball sounds so awesome, but all so expensive for teams that play on their own dime. I really think xball should only be for the pros and tourney ball for the amatuers and under. It's cheaper and it makes the pros more "elite" in a way since they get to play a version of paintball that the others don't. Just my 2 cents.

All you guys saying the coaching thing isn't going to be good..read Knick Knacks post. Our team playing an X-Ball league over here in Oregon. It is gonna be very fun. And we're playing rookie.
The scoring system alone makes it that much more fast paced and aggressive. Plus the 3 minutes between each game..great. X-Ball definitely looks like it could be the future of the sport. Normal tourny ball will never become widely publicized because it's just not spectator friendly. And X-Ball is. That's the whole point..so people will enjoy watching.
Anything X-Ball you want to know will probably be found here..
