If I recall, the optimum timing for a Cocker would mean there are no chops, the gun fires first, THEN opens the bolt (obvious), and it opens far enough to allow reliable feeding at all times. That, and if you time it just right, you get a tad bit of suction in the chamber, which helps with feeding.
