Isn't religion, by extension of itself, an earmark of closeminded-ness? It tells you what is right, and what is wrong, it doesn't leave you with any choices.

So does government and law.

Basically, they're all institutions to maintain consistent and ethical relationships between otherwise independent monads.

As for choices, religion may dictate what you can or can't do (some to a larger extent than others), but it still acknowledges human weakness and falterings. It then offers a route to redemption and a return to the community (this is based on the assumption that sin can be viewed as isolation not only from God/higher being, but also from your fellow man. C&P has hints of this, I think you just read it?)

you peaple need help you say evolution took Gods place, you say there is no such thing as God,you guys just wait till you die and go to the judgement seat God will send you to hell.

and it wont be cool.there is only one God and thats Jesus.

you guys need to pray to God and ask him to forgive you now.

Actually I dont really think anyone in this entire thread once straightforward said that god does not exist.

Iconoclast-True, I guess you could then say that religion is in fact more understanding that government. When you foul up in religion you say 2 hail marys or what have you, with the government you get thrown in jail. Or fined.

A. No one here has overtly said that evolution replaced God.
B. I tend to believe in a caring God who loves His Creation. He will offer us redemption.
C. God=Jesus....and the Father, and the Holy Spirit. Holy Trinity.
D. Praying for forgiveness is good.

You are one of the reasons why people do not take religions seriously. You come into forums or to lunch tables, preaching fire and brimstone. I don't care if that's what you believe, you are free to believe such.

However, I'm fairly certain that the purpose of this thread was for intelligent debate and conversation, not merely pronunciations of doom for non-believers. Unless you can offer us reasons to accept what you say, please stop preaching. You're not helping the Christian cause any.

Kind of true...but religion is not merely a way to get out of jail free. It emphasizes the path to redemption and right standing in the eyes of humanity. While it may seem that saying a few prayers can absolve you, my understanding is that you truly aren't forgiven unless you truly have changed. Empty words mean nothing; it's your intentions that count.

Pretty much. Or any radical evangelist who uses scare tactics to get people to convert. It's just not as genuine when a person changes out of fear.

Yeah I'd hope so. My belief was always that anyone can say they were sorry for their sins and say their prayers but in order to truly be redeemed in the eyes of god one must truly be repentant. Im sure god can tell between feigned repentant and true sorrow.
