I should watch out I never take safety precautions..except for never pointing in an unsafe direction while air'd up. I've looked straight down the barrel of a loaded 9. Used to play paintball without a mask when I couldn't afford one and I loved it. Took a shot right above my left eye brow, kept playing anyway. Guess this sticky shows how lucky I am and stupid I was.

Hope you heal up and regain vision.

Oh, and by the way, I saw in the first couple pages of this thread that goggles are made to withstand 300 fps? Me and my team prefer to play with our velocities set at 350+ fps and have never had a cracked set of goggles. We like the pain, but are we just lucky or is the 300 limit true? I've been gogged at least 3 times by a teammate's 98 Custom that actually chrono's above 350, and I wear the cheapest, flimsiest goggles you could buy.

You are very lucky, and YES the 300 fps limit is true. Every shot to the gogs at rates higher than 300 fps weaken the structural integrity of your lenses. Not to mention that a shot somehow placed on the temple, or thyroid cartilage (Adam's Apple) could end in severe injury/death at too high of speeds.

I would STRONGLY recommend turning down your speeds under 300 fps. Most of the guys I play with are younger, and we keep ours around 280ish.

Eye Update:
Last Opthamologist visit went well. There's still a lot of blood in there, but my vision is appx equivalent to 20/70 now (Initially they though 20/400 would be the best)

If you don't like the safety aspect of the 300fps limit, shots are actually more accurate below 300fps. Higher velocities can make balls curve and not follow a *straight* path.

I would also advise you to get new lenses. Lenses aren't designed to take more than a couple shots at 300fps, and even though they look fine, theer can be micro cracks in the lenses that significantly reduce thier structural integrity.

My boy's 98 Custom is chronoed at over 350 fps and it shoots some really tight groups.

By the way that's good to hear mgitlin glad everything worked out

I should get a neck protector, i mean, i doubt a shot there would seriously(hospital visit) hurt you event if it was hot, but deffedently very painfull event when you do get shot within field limits.

Hope the eye gets better, im probaly still not going to wear my mask while doing test shooting thou, i dont point at eye or face ever, so ill be fine.

Ouch man sorry to hear about the eye.

Just to reiterate on the +300fps, it can cause damage to your lense. Companies recommend getting it replaced immediately.

One more thing, never a good idea to look down the barrel of any gun, with paintball at least the barrel comes off, but accidents can happen.

Hope the eye keeps improving mate, I can say I can't imagine the pain from that one.

He actually wasn't a mod at the time, so he wasn't writing as a mod there.

And trust me, he's smart enough to have understood the "joke."

btw, you just quoted a comment that is over a year old.

I've noticed the pictures are no longer in this thread. Any chance of reposting them? I would like to show my son how incredibly important it is to always be safe with paintball. He is 13 so we all know at that age young men's brains seem to go into their cajones until about age 20 (give or take a year).

How is your eye after all this time? I have heard that even though it is among the most complex organ in our body the eye is one of the most resilient when injured. (One of God's amazing creations IMHO).

The pictures are still up on the front page. If you cant see them, it's possible your home or work has a firewall that is keeping them from displaying.

My eye has gotten better, but not back to pre-accident, obviously. I would rate it at 75% recover, which is much better than Doctors expected.

It bothers me occasionally, but I wouldn't say it interferes with my daily life, so much.

Let me know if you're still not able to view the pictures, and I can email them to you.
