Respect
Back in the 70's and even now there are people that hate the troops.
When soldiers got back from vietnam people spat on them and swore.
Its one thing to opose the war, i do myself, but the people who did the job dont need your anger.
First of all some of them didnt just say i want to fight, some of them had no choice.
Secondly your giving no respect to people that died taking lead to the chest, or just getting straight blown to peices for the rest of us to have the freedoms that ussually dont realize we have. Not to mention the survivors that have to live with what they saw for the rest of their lives, with grandchildren that get bored over their stories.
I dont know about you guys but no matter how stupid this war is or how illiterate, ignorant, and down right incapable president bush is, we need to show a little respect for the people that let us live the way we do, and not do something stupid with the freedoms we have.
They said they wanted to stick up and fight for the rest of our countries freedoms. That takes Balls.
in my book thats respected and i show my respect

Uh... who says people don't support the troops?
Are you just bashing something that doesn't exist to seem like a better person?

You should respect them even more because their fighting for a completely worthless cause and respect is the only thing their gonna get.

Yes. That was then, this is now. Though I don't know how you can tell a story about something you didn't experience...
Regardless! People support the troops. You can't say because people didn't support the troops 30 years ago that they don't support them now.
People realize that soldiers want to serve their country but also realize that soldiers are not the ones responsible for these extended stays over-seas.
That's the government's fault, and that's where the anger is being directed.
I don't really understand why this thread exists yet.

Wise Guy, there are those that can not tell the difference between the Government and the Military. To them, they are the samething. I have experienced both sides of the 'Thank you.' to 'I hope you die!'. The hardest thing for me is how to respond to either one. Can't exactly blow them off but can't fully accept them either. I haven't been to Iraq or Afghanistan but I have been deployed. I don't feel I've done much to earn a 'thank you' but I know I don't deserve the 'die MFer' either.

yeah I havent really met anyone who doesn't support the troops we have overseas either, but I'm sure there are ppl like that out there.

Lies. A more accurate assessment would be "half of the posters on this forum are at least functionally retarded."

I disagree with our reasons for beginning and continuing the war in Iraq, but I support the troops. I would be seriously appalled and offended if I ever heard someone calling an Iraq war vet a "baby killer" or something like that.
However, like wiseguy I don't think I've ever been exposed to been this anti-soldier mentality of which you speak. I was under the impression that such disrespect was seen as taboo after the shameful treatment of Vietnam vets.

UNfortunately it still exist while not as in your face as is was in the late 60s early 70s. Those people may have their reasons(really don't know what it could be but they have them) for feeling that way. I have actually taken a few minutes and asked a person why they would say that to me and I just recieved another rude response. At which point a part of me wanted to pummel them into a little bloody puddle and another part of me just said "walk away, walk away". They're still breathing and I'm still in my military uniform.

I must say around here, I have never seen the troops disrespected in any way. Sure some(most) dont think we should be there but they have never spoken out against the soldiers. From what I understand the 60s and early 70s was a different story.

With the exception of fringe groups like the Westboro baptist church, please cite your sources.

Was that meant to be read as a chain letter? Will I incur seven years of lonely solitude if I don't forward it?
