Thanks for the sticky, I just got my Ion this week and am headed out to use it today. This post made it simple to understand what the manual makes confusing. I will spend a lot less time setting it up as a result.....Thanks!

Yes. Set your recharge to 0.

The physical process of changing the settings can be found in your manual, at www.zdspb.com, and here:
http://www.nicksdistortion.com/ioninfo/tune/board.html
The explanation of what dwell is/what it does is in the thread

Are you saying you are getting drop-off or that you are experiencing an extremely slow rate of fire?

I didn't see this link on this sticky so here's a nice FAQ page on the Ion. It even has a nifty calculator for setting your dwell and ROF (scroll to the bottom)

I know this thread is old, but i just bought the L7 bolt in conjunction with 360 qev and wanted to revisit this.
Here are the two things that concerns me...
1. will a lighter bolt automatically decrease kick? so lets say my dwell is set at 50, i put a new bolt in and leave dwell at 50.
a. will i notice a significant decrease in kick without adjusting dwell?
b. If not, will adjusting dwell down to lets say 20 show a significant decrease in kick?
2. recharge
Is it possible for the recharge to be set too low? I know earlier in the post OP recommends setting it at 0, but does this mean that the marker might not have enough time to "recharge" between shots and will cause shoot-down?
.. or is the shoot-down and kick completely controlled by dwell setting and bolt weight?

with L7 and qev its best to start at a dwell of 30, set reg to your desired velocity and see how it shoots. Ive seen them shoot at 20 but its hit or miss.
