The Etek is quite similar to an '05 Ego, but manufacture has been simplified and some features have been left off or changed in order to keep the price down - you can kind of think of it as being like the comparison between a Trilogy and a normal Autococker.

The Etek has no QEVs fitted, which reduces the cycle rate by about 5cps according to Planet. Then again, when you are comparing the ability to shoot 25bps to 30bps, are you really losing anything? The stock board allows ramping up to 15.4bps, or unlimited semi, but no-one can shoot 25bps in true semi anyway, so you'll never miss that extra 5 cycles per second unless you switch to an aftermarket board, and if you do, 25bps is plenty anyway.

The board uses a microswitch rather than an optical sensor, so the trigger feel is a bit different. Another difference in the trigger is that you have an adjustment screw to adjust how hard the trigger spring pushes the trigger forwards - the Ego uses a magnet to provide return force, and rather than being mounted behind the trigger, it is mounted above and in front of the trigger, so it actually pulls the trigger forwards, providing another difference in trigger feel.

The board does not feature an LCD, using colour backlit buttons for feed back instead. The control buttons are still used to navigate around the options, but settings are now changed via trigger pulls.

Other than these changes, and obviously the cosmetic differences, they are very similar markers.

Which aftermarket board? Tadao or Virtue? I had a Tadao in my DM6 & liked it.....Which aftermarket bolt???

You might want to look at the Cure bolt if you are breaking paint. Other than that, there isn't a whole lot to be gained by going aftermarket. If you just have to upgrade, there's the Kila bolt, New Designz bolt and the Orange bolt. All good quality, and all get the job done, but then, so does the stock bolt.

Much more clear cut as far as the boards are concerned - Tadao. Tadao's M7 firmware simply offers more than the Virtue firmware and costs less. Win/win. Virtue make big claims about having better eye logic and trigger response, but I've used a variety of high end stock and aftermarket boards, and Virtue really isn't any better in these areas than the majority of quality boards - it's just hype. So why pay more and get less? The only advantage Virtue have over Tadao is the 15bps cap switch. Flick a switch, and the Virtue board is capped, whereas the Tadao requires programming to set it from unlimited (or whatever other rate it may be set to) to 15bps. Other than that one convenient addition, the Tadao wins out. Having said that, if the tourny timer does not agree with the Tadao boards 15bps setting, you would have to program the correct rate of fire in to the Virtue board, so the Virtue boards cap switch isn't necessary that big an advantage anyway.

Those are spare parts, not upgrades. They are exactly the same as the exhaust valve you have in your marker right now and won't change performance at all. Just something you need if your valve wears out and needs replacing.

Cool.....thanks.......I'm still waiting for bump to get the reg piston combo. They're now telling me the middle of Feb.

Waiting on them myself..... One set for my '06 Ego and one set for my Ego7. Oh well, at least the delay means that I will probably be able to get the pistons and a Yakuza board with the same order.

Ramping on the etek. how do i enter this mode. any help would be appreciated

First thing you need to do is turn off the tournament lock: -

1. open grips to expose the board.
2. Turn on marker.
3. Press red button on the board.

If the LEDs on the back strap of the frame flash green, press the button again so that they flash red. Once the lights have flashed red: -

4. Turn off marker.

You can now re-programme the marker: -

1. Start with the marker turned off.
2. Pull and hold the trigger.
3. While holding the trigger down, turn on the marker.

The E and O will alternately flash white to indicate programming mode.

4. Release the trigger, and the G will turn red.

At this point, you would tap the trigger to change between adjustable parameters, but in this instance, the first parameter is the firing mode, as indicated by the G being lit up red. So we can go straight in to changing the parameter.

5. Pull and hold the trigger - the LEDs will flash the value of the current setting, and then the E will stay lit.
6. Press the power button.
7. The G will light up - pull the trigger the number of times that represents the mode you want.
8. Press the power button.
9. The O will light up - press the power button. If your setting has been accepted, the LEDs should flash green.
10. Turn off your marker.

Give that a go.

Just remember, As I found out the hard way, When choosing ramp 1-5 (say ramp 3) .... you need to enter the combo 0-3-0 ... cause its 03.0
