I make a note to clean and relube the regs and anything else like the ram or in this case the bolt when getting a new marker.

Yep - no telling how old the grease in there is, whether it has been exposed to dust etc. Always a good idea to give it a clean.

I would also give the marker another good clean after it has worn in (then again, being a spool valve, it needs regular cleaning and greasing anyway).

Beyond that, it should be good to go out of the box.

Check the LPR guage to make sure it's between 80-110 PSI as well.

More often than not, the grease is Dow 55, which needs removed. Toss the Dow 55 in the garage for lubing... your lawnmower or something? Do what Tab and Uziel say, making sure to use something better.

Treat it to a fresh, quality, alkaline battery of course, but that pretty much goes without saying.

The lpr should be set at 100 psi actually to start and then after a few cases you can drop it to 95, then a few more and down to 90. Only after several months of it being used are people saying then can shoot it at 80 psi with no drop off.
