March 30th will be the big game / scenario game called "The Wild Geese" by: Pack Rats Productions.
Is it a sin to do the right thing for the wrong reason? Is courage for sale? Honor? These are questions posed in "The Wild Geese." A crack team of mercenaries face their toughest challenge yet as they attempt to rescue the right man for the wrong reason. Col. Allen Faulkner, former SAS, former Belgian Congo mercenary commander, is looking for a few good men. Actually, he is recruiting for the "Wild Geese". Named for the Irish soldiers who chose to fight for France rather than surrender to Britain, the "Wild Geese" are the toughest mercs whoever killed for a dollar. The client is a wealthy industrialist and peer of the realm named Sir Edward Matherson. The mission is to rescue Julius Limbani, former president and current political prisoner in the African nation of Pula. The first popularly elected leader in a generation, Mr. Limbani lost the job in a bloody coup over five years ago. General-President-for-Life-Savior-of-His-People Idi Gamin Waka threw Mr. Limbani into prison when he took over. The only reason Mr. Limbani is still alive is that the United Nations, Amnesty International, and a host of other groups have continued to agitate for his release. By now, Mr. Limbani's death would only create a martyr and an even bigger headache for General Waka. Therefore, he is content to leave Limbani in prison to rot. While the world may abhor Waka's regime, no one with a real army cares enough about Pula to do anything about it. Sir Matterson's only concern is that Pula is rich in diamonds and diamonds keep Sir Matterson in the style to which he has become accustomed. Unfortunately, General Waka has begun to get greedy. He has decided to keep his country's diamonds for his own profit rather than Sir Matterson's. Matterson's reaction is to hire Col. Faulkner to snatch former President Limbani from prison in order to put pressure on Waka. Matterson hopes the threat of a Limbani revolution will force Waka to the bargaining table. Col. Faulkner and his guns for hire seldom concern themselves with the motives of their employers as long as the check clears. The fact that Limbani could be the spark that topples Waka and gives the people of Pula a fighting chance at a better life is not their concern.
Faulkner and his team of Wild Geese establish a base camp in Pula. They then begin the dangerous process of finding Mr. Limbani and rescuing him from his captors. Along the way, they seek assistance from the People's Liberation Army, a group fighting against President Waka. The PLA can be very useful to the Wild Geese if Faulkner can find a way to sway them to his side. They will need all the help they can get. Defending the Pula Military Prison is General Waka's crack "Bloody Lions" Brigade.
Join the PackRatz and PEV's/AG Paintball as we present the chance for bad men to do the right thing for the wrong reason and be paid for it.
This game will follow a storyline format. You must achieve mission objectives to progress in the game. No points will be awarded. The winner will be the team that achieves their objectives and complete their ultimate mission. For the Wild Geese, this means rescuing Mr. Limbani and escaping from Pula. For the glorious forces of General Waka, this means killing the foreign mercenaries and returning the traitorous Limbani to his cell before the world finds out he is loose. We will chart the story's progress on a large storyboard so players can keep up with the game.
Players are encouraged to develop their own characters and missions. Please see the Game Director at Joe's Trading Post for approval of roles and how they will fit into the game. You may also bring additional props to the game. The Game Director MUST clear all props before they can be used in the game.
Helicopters will be available in this game, but they are not free. Both the Wild Geese and the Pula national army can buy helicopter time from "Joe's African Emporium and Trading Post." Joe is a dealer in weapons, diamonds, and information. Many things can be bought at Joe's; none is cheap. Diamonds are a girl's best friend and Joe's as well. Be advised; no one is very sure who or what Joe is or for whom he works.
Helicopters cannot be shot down by ground fire (paintballs). Only Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) cards can be used to "shoot down" helicopters. Joe's carries a complete line of RPG cards for a reasonable rate of exchange. These cards must be presented to a referee and the player using the card must be within sight of the helicopter. If a helicopter is shot down with an RPG card, the card is initialed by the referee and given to the pilot of the dead helo. This card must be turned in to one of the Base Umpires or the Game Director. RPGs may also be used to destroy buildings. Anyone in the structure is declared "dead." The structure is back in play immediately after "destruction."
Each Base Umpire will hold a complete set of Mission Cards. They will be given to the General when a radio message is received from the Game Director telling them which mission is being sent. Both teams will usually have the same objective with opposing missions. Missions will run every 30 minutes unless play progresses well enough to speed them up. Since this is a six-hour game, we have a minimum of 12 missions. In addition, Generals are free to assign their players separate missions that they believe will be to their team's advantage. These would include recon of potential objectives; scouting for the enemy; gathering intelligence and making contact with local guerrilla groups.
This game will include several spies on each side with their own separate missions. Generals are encouraged to use their spies, as the information they can discover could be highly significant.
We will be introducing medics for this game as well. Medics will be marked with armbands and have the power to "heal" players on the field. If the player is shot anywhere except the head, the medic may heal the player by touching them. Headshots are instantly fatal. No medic can bring you back from that.
This game will include artillery because artillery lends class to what would otherwise be a disorganized brawl. Target Reference Points (TRP) will be established around the field. These points will be clearly marked with a sign that reads "TRP" and a number. Each General may call in a limited number of artillery rounds using these TRPs by saying for example, "Target: troops in the open. TRP 2." An artillery referee will then go to TRP 2 and throw a pair of paint grenades at the designated target. If you are hit you are out. Artillery fire may also be called in on fixed structures by choosing the closest TRP and describing the target. Read your map carefully as no one appreciates friendly fire on their position. Ask Joe about his special deals on artillery rounds.
