Exclamation Paintball is not an extreme sport

Last night I was at an indoor skatepark doing my thing. I'm a rollerblader. To you x-games fruits I guess you could call it, "Aggressive Inline". Whatever. Anyway I shot down this quarter pipe and did a cess slide across a box that was about 5-6 feet off the ground. Unfortunately I caught my front foot on a wheel and did an unintentional dive face first over the edge. I managed to catch myself but I still tore off the skin on the bottom part of my chin. Then I thought to myself, "This is 'extreme'".

Which brings one to the definition of what is exactly extreme. Paintball, is not. A lot of paintball players dress 'thug' and stuff to play paintball and there's a certain adrenaline rush in playing the game. However, there really is not danger. Diving into bunkers and stuff is interesting. But not particularly dangerous. I'm sure some people would say, "I broke my leg sliding into a bunker!" You could also break your leg sliding into first base. Still baseball is not extreme. Anyway it just kind of annoys me when paintball players consider themselves "extreme" or when websites promote paintball as being "extreme". I love paintball, it's a great game. But it's just a game. Care to rebut?

Extreme nowadays doesn't necessarily define an action as being dangerous. it refers to the action being non-mainstream. Under that assumption, i'd agree that paintball isn't "extreme." it's popular enough to be considered just a sport.

Football is a dangerous sport with a high risk of injury and it's not considered extreme. Neither is hockey. If you only classify a sport as extreme because there is a great risk of injury then most sports would have to be classified as "extreme".

I do consider paintball to be an extreme sport. If you ask me, a bunch of people shooting paint at each other a 300 fps is pretty extreme...

There are so many buffers for your safety. FPS limitations, equipment that protects against any real danger (i.e. mask). And like nerdcore said it's pretty mainstream. Aren't there varsity paintball teams and such? I wouldn't be surprised if skateboarding becomes varsity since it's so freakin' mainstream lately. However it'll always be an extreme support since it's one of the original extreme sports.

You failed to make a point here. Skateboarders/BMXers/Inline skaters wear pads, don't they? Do they have to? No. Do Paintballers necessarily have to chrono their gun? No. But in competitions,Both Paintball and the other sports reqiure you to have certain pieces of safety equipment and follow main guidlines, right? Look at it that way.

No danger in paintball? Get real!

I separated my ribs, almost broke my leg and have been cut up so bad I had to take weeks off to heal.

My ribs still hurt to this day and I crunched them years ago. I ran into a tree running really fast and hit my chest on the trunk. That was it for me. I can't get out of bed somedays it hurts so much.

Wow, you should wrap your clumsy butt in bubble wrap you accident prone freak. I've done Muay thai kickboxing, various martial arts, rollerblading, wrestling and other sports and the worse i've injured myself is like busted lips and nose from kickboxing, dislocated jaw from karate, 5 stitches from rollerblading and that's about it. I'm pretty sure if someone like you did the sports I did you'd be dead.

I guess you can call walking an extreme sport if you're that oblivious to your surroundings.

Hows this for a blunt point. Falling off a 10' drop onto concrete wearing no pads (which most street rollers/skaters/bikers do) is a boat load more serious than getting hit with a bath bead. N'est pas?

So?

I consider a sport to be extreme if it is more of a "Generation X" sport, like Motocross, Paintball, Snowboarding, Skateboarding, etc. Most sports are dangerous.....Paintball, isn't that dangerous, but it's still an Xtreme sport.

I hate to be the bad guy, but paintballing without a mask is just plain stupid. If the velocity is kept to a safe limit, masks on while on the field, and all other safety precautions taken than I highly doubt you will be hurt easily while playing. And we have sigs for a reason, my friend.
