Karnivor, DM5 or Dragon Timmy which is the most reliable?

Hi there,

I currently have a Karnivor and am not really that happy with it. Its proved to be very very high maintenance with a steep learning curve and not reliable.

I am looking for somthing in the $1000 bracket that can shoot as fast as i can pull which is only about 10 BPS and is relatively easy to maintain and is consistently reliable. With a strong emphasis on consistent reliabity.
After reading various reviews here i was thinking DM5 or the Dragon Timmy?

Thanks

They'll both require about equal maintenance, if you don't want to maintain your gun, buy a low-end.

It's not that i dont want to maintain my marker, i dont want to have to spend most of my time trying to figure out why my brand new marker isnt firing.

Remember the emphasis was on "consistently reliable"

A timmy can be just as reliable as any of those you mentioned, if you read the manual. Cockers really arent that hard, if you can understand how your marker works.

More parts = higher chance of breaking.

The DM5 is your best bet.

but the dm5 has alot of o-rings. the cocker has alot of moving parts. the timmy would hold up the best without correct maintenance, but if you set the up and take care of them, they will all be very reliable. they are all very well built.

Look into a Viking/Excalibur. They are dang near bullet proof. All they need is a drop or 2 of lube in the asa before you play, dry fire it a couple time and your set. They have a lifetime warranty, break beam eyes, take cocker threads, so your barrels will fit. There are tons of different millings, and after broken in they can get 2000+ shots off of a 68/4500. I use a 45/45 on my Viking and get 1500-1600 shots off of it.
Just another option.

Egos are so freaking easy to maintain. Just oil the rammer o rings after every day of play and relube the regs every 2 months or so

Very true, but only a few certain o-rings take major stress.

Timmies are easy to take care of, but lubing the poppet can be difficult, as can be replacing barbs/hosing. When DM5's have a problem, it's a quick fix.

You won't go wrong with a DM5, Timmy, Ego or a Viking/Excal. All are easy to maintain IMHO and are great, high performing markers.

I agree the DM5 is the most reliable. The Timmy is on par with the DM5 but because of the simplicity of the design, the DM5 is slightly easier to problem-solve than the Timmy is. However the DM5 needs slightly more maintenance because there are so many o rings.

The Cocker takes last because the design is much more complicated and problems are harder to fix than the other 2 guns imo.

Bottomline though, I'd say most reliability problems come from user maintenance error or just plain bad-luck. All 3 of the guns should rarely if ever go down.

i say DM5 or ego/timmy. An ego pretty much is a timmy with a cocker e2 frame on it. The timmy is probably more reliable if not properly taken care of. Besided we have one hella awesome forum

I agree with what everyone has said but I havent heard anyone mention the Nerve, I know they arent the most popular marker but I have talked to a few people who have one and they say all they do is oil every game and it's fine, very maintenance free.

as long as you get a new nerve (the first run hadc all sorts off production issues) they seem to be alright. still not my favorite, i think all 3 of the guns originally listed outperform the nerve. and the stock nerve is fairly heavy too, especially with the stainless barrel.

Maybe that explains why SP isn't selling alot of them. I don't know anything about them really I just heard that they didn't require alot of maintenance.

they require the same amount of maintenance as say, an impulse or something. simple design, but nothing special performance wise, not from what i have seen/experienced.

I have had my Timmy for about 5 years now and have had only one problem with it. I sent it to Jaster and it came back as good as new (with a few extras I requested). Every case I lube it and every case rips some more. I am not big about maintenance either and really think that you would be happy with any Timmy that you like (looks wise, they are all basically the same internally). A Timmy would also take your Timmy threaded... I mean 'Cocker threaded barrels too if it's a concern.

As for the DM5, etc. I really can't say much seeing how I havn't had my hands on one yet. Just try each of them out and see which one you like in your hands the best.
