Story
By George Joosten
October, 2005. . .The time was ripe, and General “BlackCat” Mamaligas was in position. All was going as planned—but could he win? Could he take back what was rightfully his—what rightfully belonged to Great Britain? Following that last “skirmish” on February 22nd, 2003, Tony Blair had been playing “nice guy” under the guise of repairing the relationship with America and begging forgiveness for hastily and erroneously attacking America’s border with Mexico. Since that time, England had been American’s ally, America’s friend. They stood behind her in the war with Iraq. They stood behind her in the skirmish in Afghanistan. And all that time, in the background, England was watching carefully. Watching for weaknesses. Watching for holes. Watching for the right opportunity—the opportunity to strike again. And here, finally, it was, staring him right in the face.
February 22, 2003. . .The day of the first Battle of the Desert Delaware. The day Mamaligas and his troops invaded the U.S. through Mexico. He surprised and then crushed the U.S. Army at Ft Bliss, Texas, but, too confident of a second victory, his army met the horrendous defeat in the little community of Canutillo. At the hands of private armed citizens and German soldiers stationed in nearby New Mexico under the leadership of General Frank Mertins of the German Air Force, the British and Mamaligas were defeated. Why the Germans had come to the aid of the Americans, Mamaligas would never know, but the defeat had been a terrible blow for General Mamaligas.
October 1, 2005. . . Shaking off the memories, General Mamaligas crawled out of bed and summoned the orderly for his coffee. Sitting down with his warm cup and the daily reports, he started to smile. Today was the day that he would finally take back what belonged to England! The final piece of Great Britain’s plan was a serendipitous event that was the opportunity both Mamaligas and Blair had been looking for—waiting for. Revolution broke out in Mexico in early spring, their Government in turmoil, and the majority of the bloodshed occurred in the Mexican state of Chihuahua. It couldn’t be more perfect! At the first glimpses of fall, General Mamaligas began to move British troops to Northern Mexico under the guise of restoring stability there. On September 28th, he invaded the United States.
And today was October 1, 2005. The day that General Mamaligas would defeat the remnants of the hastily assembled army of U.S. citizenry and volunteers from the German Air Force under the command of General Robert Crossland. Crossland’s scraggly army was holed up high in the mountains of Southern New Mexico, and there Mamaligas would make his attack. Mamaligas knew that Crossland’s army would be easily defeated, and England would once again claim what was rightfully theirs. After all, General Mertins of the G.A.F. had already returned to Germany. Without his leadership and with the Americans and Germans depending on General Crossland, General Mamaligas couldn’t lose. How much nicer it would be, though, if General Mertins were here to share in the loss. Ah, well. . . Mamaligas would dash off a cordial note to him once Crossland’s defeat was complete. How sweet that would be!
Yes, the Battle of the Desert Delaware II would have a different outcome this time and the nightmares would be over.
