Price Range

I was looking at markers and noticed some are worth from 1000-2000$ Thats extream, I could understand 500$ being a 'high' price, but 2000$!?! Does that mean my simple 108$ maverick is actually a piece of crap that'll break, and the 500$ onces I *used to think* were the expensive ones are the average marker, and to get a good durable one you have to fork out thousands of dollars? Like whats with the price range? Why and when do people buy 2000$ markers? (Bob Long Dragon LE is the only one I've seen for 2000$ so far, probably more out there though).

well for a starting marker i wouldn't pay less then 250, cause otherwise your gun will fall apart and you won't like the sport, a decent semi-auto for rec speedball is like 400-600, like a spyder shutter or Xtra, or any mid line pirahna. But if you want a decent tourney gun then your up to like 800-1400 I would say(autococker and mags), A good electro is like 1500-1900 (I've never seen a gun for the full 2000 though, maybe with shipping and tax, but never just for the gun. later.

Price range

here's a link
http://www.badlandspaintball.com/pag.../angelir3.html

that's for the new IR3 Angel's at badlands - yes those prices are canadian.

As for the prices of guns.... well it's like cars, we could all drive chevy sprints, they'd get us from point A to point B, but some people may opt for the bigger, faster, better, model.

With paint markers, it's the same deal, we could all get along just fine with pump guns, remember it only takes one broken paintball to tag a player out. But there are many guns out there that can shoot faster and may be more accurate. Those guns use different technologies & aftermarket parts & blah.. blah.. blah.. quite honestly, once you get past a certain dollar value you're not paying for anything performance related, you're only paying for expensive annodization (colouring) and milling, and for the jealous looks from other people when you show them your custom, heatseeking, fingerprint ID, voice command <insert gun here>

Now I dont believe your maverick is crap and going to break, and dont let anyone convince you otherwise. Quite honestly, the more you add on gadgets and electronics, the LESS durable and reliable it will potentially be. Any gun can be made into a useless pile of metal (or plastic in BE's case) if you dont take care of it. But if you look after your equipment properly, I dont see it becoming junk anytime soon. You may eventually want a semi for firepower or whatever but there's no sense in sinking a good sum of $ into equipment when you're not yet sure about your future in the sport (I'm assuming you're a relatively newer player, and the maverick is your first gun)

well I have a different point of view here. Both being a player and the owner of a store (Unlikely Heroes)

I see every kind of player.

First I am a tournament player. Thats what I live for in this sport. Rec-ball is fun but its not what I am mainly doing. I happen to now own one of those $1700+ markers. And as I get it and have fun I will easily trick my angel out to be worth more than $2200+.

Now why might you ask. Well for the rec-ball kinda player. Play bush or speed ball but not tournies. Not often (I play more than once per week, as we start to get heavy into our practices we will be playing more than 3 times per week). Rec-ball you do not need an angel which will fire more than 10bps (really as fast as you can pull the trigger it can easily hit 20bps but you never will).
THe higher end markers are like buying higher end cars. One to a degree they are much more consistent, high quality (or at least should be), faster rates of fire, ease of maintenance, among other things.

Yes I know if you put a rookie and a pro player in the ring and give the rookie an angel ($1700+ marker) and a pro player a Spyder Compact 2000 to a degree the pro player will in 9 times out of 10 maybe more.

Now if you stick 2 amateur players in the ring and give one an angel and the other a spyder compact 2000 you will see angel boy most likely win 7-8 times out of 10. Now one reason is Rate Of Fire, just keep shooting then bunker (tournament trick), another is consistency (so more accuracy) among a few others.

I know Bad Company plays with Spyders now but think which tournament have they won (not placed won), none that I know of.

Unrelated question

Hey, you talked a little about your team practices 3 times a week or so. Thats alot, just wondering what the heck do you do during your practices (being new to this I have no clue) Do you guys just run around and practice hiding and shooting each other? Or is there planned strategy to it?

for now its drills
running and shooting
bunkering
pinning and bunkering
snap shooting (biggest one) [against targets and other players]
3 on 3 drills
soon as it gets nice for a bit (getting there) we will be doing more outdoor practices (they are cheaper) and hopefully run some games that we just practice against other teams to get strategies and moves down pat.

ok jeffery, i dont liek your little poke at BAd company, there are a couple pro teams who havent woon a tourney in awhile. AND bad company was a pro team a couple years back and they did win tourneys so HA. sorry i just like bad company, they prove you can kick *** with a tricked 200$ marker, (they use extras witha centerflag inline reg and hyperframe) and some use a em1. BAD COMPANY ROCKS. and the reason they havent won a tourney in the 1 year they have been back isnt because they shoot spyders.

sorry superman.

Yes it was a bad poke. They are a good team. And not doing too bad either with really custom EM1s and Xtras.

I do hope they do better its a great selling tool for spyders.

Yea. they rock, all though they are also using AMGs now to. they pretty much shoot a different spyder marker each tourney, not to mention they get a but load of cash to shoot em from kingman
