A-5 Tech Needed

Alright this one stumped me. A good friend of mine has an a-5. He's had it for about a month, and used it in 5 games.

He gassed it up the other day, shot over the chronograph and it was fine.

Then he went to play, and the feed system wouldnt feed. the cyclone wouldnt advance.

We took the marker completely apart, and everything looks to be fine.

any ideas?

did he degas it and forget to repump the cyclone?

Was this like right after you cronoed your gun? Or after 5 games? If its after the 5 games your might be low on gas. Near the end of my tank my R/t stops working then after 20 or more shots the cyclone stops feeding.

Now if thats not the problem then I dont know what it is. Try talking to Tippmann see if they know anything.

Just had this problem with an A-5/Ranger F/X kit for a customer of mine. It worked one day(Saturday) and then on Sunday it malfunctioned 3 times(exactly how you described).

Remove the bottom plate on the cyclone feed. There will be a clear plastic piece that is paralel to the marker. That piece should be perpendictular. rotate it clock-wise(best to have manual for this, pictures work great). Now look at the inside of the plate you removed. Is there a 'tit' there that would stop the piece you just moved from turning? If not call Tippmann and tell them your problem and they will square you away. Not only are they sending me a replacement piece but they are send a few extras for me, in case anyone else has the same problem. How cool is that!?

I'll post pictures of how it should look if you really want me to.

Remove these 4 screws from teh bottom of the cyclone feed.

This it what the inside should look like(OK mine is entirely black but the one I worked on was clear...sorry)

OK, so it's not exactly perpendicular but it's pretty close. Now, the operating rod(at the 'top' of the feed near the nut), if that is pushed all the way to the left, making the actuating lever paralel to the marker body, that is your problem. You can pull the lever back to the correct postition but make sure you keep the feed assist in position. It can be a pain in the butt to get the spring and bushing back in place(took me 20 minutes the first time

. If that is you problem, Call Tippamann and they'll sqaure you away.

The older A-5's seem to have that problem, but I heard the newer ones have a corrected peice.

You're partially correct. Mine is an older A-5 and I have never had this problem. It is a problem that could happen but doesn't always happen. That is why there was no mass recall. The newer A-5 have the modified bottom plate. IIRC, it should have an 'A' on it.

Problem solved...

it ended up being that the screw in the elbow fitting that supplys gas to the cyclone was misaligned... so basicly it was turned off and not properly supplying gas from the valve...
