Question WAS or APE egrip?

I'm looking into buying an egrip for my 98c (with ACT) and was about to buy a WAS board, but noticed that there is something else called an APE board. What are the differences in the two, and will both fit my 98c (it is not pro or platinum, just a normal 98c with ACT). Also, the APE seems cheaper at most places, but gets better reviews online, is this because you have to already have a board before you get the APE board Thanks in advance.

You used to have to make sure that the APE board you got came with the solenoid, but almost all of the boards come with one now. But the reason that APE gets better reviews is because it's honestly better. It's more adjustable, more physically durable, and has better programming. I've owned both the old style WAS board (when it was still manufactured by Wicked Air Sports) and the APE board that's currently in my marker.

To give you an idea of how good APE is, all you have to do is look at my arsenal. I have one of their boards every marker I own that they make a board for. APE does things a little different than most paintball electronics companies, and I like it. They're very much "outside the box".

I've also discovered a Virtue Redefined board. It seems to be a lot better, and only $4 more. Does anyone have more information on this board? Also, before I buy on of these 3 mentioned boards, I just wanted to confirm that they install in the 98c with ACT (not pro) without any modifications to the gun. Thanks for all your help.

I don't like Virtue. A few years back, they tried to pad their reviews on this site by having their employees fill out rave reviews on their own products. Personally, I won't deal with a company that willfully shows that level if immorality. Ironic for a company that calls itself "Virtue".

Also worth note, if the pictures of the 98 board on the Virtue website are accurate, they use the same style microswitch connection that gave WAS such a bad name a few years ago. I still have two WAS boards lying around here somewhere that are perfectly good, but the microswitches have been ripped off. I replaced it with an APE board, which has the switch soldered directly to the board. This board has been in place for at least three, maybe four years as of right now.

But if you're concerned about the Virtue being better, it isn't. APE has all the goodies and adjustment points that Virtue has, it's just that Virtue puts it in a more attractive package for people who don't do their homework. As I said before, I'm a lifetime APE fan based on my experience with them.

Curly? What happened to our epic WAS vs APE arguments? Did your WAS finally take a crap... I mean, did I finally sneak in and destroy it?

No it still works, just in the never ending gun upgrading it lost out to the APE board. WAS board is perfectly fine when it works, but the APE is so much better in every aspect.

I have an APE and it is leaps and bounds better than the WAS, well worth every penny it costs. The APE's are very easy to program, have an awesome solenoid, and a microswitch attached to the board. My favorite feature is the auto on and off. No need to turn it on or off. Pull the trigger and it's on, let go and it's off. Unheard of battery life. Had mine installed for almost a year now and I'm still on the same battery. You'll probably never be in the middle of a fire fight and have the board stop working because of a dead battery. I've seen this on many occasions with the WAS board. I don't suggest you use a battery for that long, just saying mine has lasted that long and been well used. It's always smart to change to a fresh one before any big game. That's my 2 cents worth.

How many cases of paint do you shoot and how often do you play?

I just ordered the 98 Custom with Egrip. What type of board is that? I figured for 120 bucks it was worth having a second 98 to go with my R/T model (both ACT).

98c's come from Tippmann with a WAS board. Interestingly, Tippmann now owns the rights to that board since WAS went under.

Lies, there is no way you got anything close to 52 cases. Or even 30 cases for that matter.
