Should I stay or should I go
Ok so here is my predicament. I have owned my Rat JR since 04(bought it brand new), and played for 2 solid years (some tournament ball in Memphis and what not). After this I was forced to take a break and now I am wanting to get back into the game. I am currently living in Austin TX and am wanting to get on the UT paintball team. So in order to do this I have to get back into practice. Now here is where my question comes in, should i stick with my Rat JR -
2004 RatJR (Grey) Stage 2 :
-Voodoo delrin bolt
-Eclipse blade trigger, halo no rise feed neck
-Vertical Maxflo Reg
-Stainless steel Evil hammer
-ANS LPR, New Designs LPR adapter
-Empire Reloader B
-WAS Equalizer Board
-14" ultralight, 68/3k crossfire fiber wrap tank
-chrome and red unimount
and just try to mod it some more, or should I go a different route such as a pm7.... now I am a front/mid player and the light weight of the pm7 might be of great assistance. Now i know that I am going to get some biased answers since this is an Impulse thread (which I am an impy lover at heart also), but I would like some advice. And if you think i should keep my Rat, then do you have suggestions for upgrades, and if you think I should sell it, what do you think i could get for my Rat minus the Reloader B and Tank. ( the gun is still in great condition...I keep good care of my stuff)
Thanks

Only you can decide what is the best rig for you. If you know perfectly how your setup reacts, how to fix it, how to play it, etc. than it may take a lot to get a new one, and end up with you performing worse with an unfamiliar setup. Imps are great solid workhorses and will perform consistently.
The drawback, obviously, is they're heavier than most guns so you're not as mobile. You have to make the call...

Like mgitlin said, its all up to your preference. I'd say play a few more times with it, and play with that PM7 if you could before making a final decision. See which gun prefer for the position you'll be playing most often.
I thought we gave you the same answer on PBN

Hah yeah other opinions help though, but i opted to work on my Rat. Ive ordered an iframe, slic-shot ram shaft (need HE housing and midweight hammer), Rip valve, and NDZ white stubby bolt. Don't by any chance have that laying around do ya

dude, Rock the Rat!
the difference in weight is not so great as to make a difference at an amature level. If it concernes you, hit the gym once extra per week. problem solved.
As far as size, it's only the size ABOVE the barrel that makes you a bigger target, I suggest a low rise and a good hopper/vision board.
and, the Rat is next to indestructable. besides, if you get to the point where you are sponsored and think it's necesary, your sponsor may want a particular gun or another, best let them buy it (or at least help you with it)

Good luck finding a Rip Valve... they're next to impossible to find now.
Looks like it's going to be a great setup, though. You may also want to do some research on the SP Strange bolt, from what I've heard it has better efficiency.

if thats your set up i wouldn't change it any. i'd keep this set up until at least until you make a team, no point in buying a new gun if you aren't going to playing with it all the time, and the resell value is probably pretty low.

Usually you can fetch more money by parting out an Imp than selling it all together.

same with almost anything that has upgrades, cars, motorcycles (especially sport bikes, sell the aftermarket stuff first)

Ok guys so from what i had initially posted of the -
2004 RatJR (Grey) Stage 2 :
-Voodoo delrin bolt
-Eclipse blade trigger, halo no rise feed neck
-Vertical Maxflo Reg
-Stainless steel Evil hammer
-ANS LPR, New Designs LPR adapter
-Empire Reloader B
-WAS Equalizer Board
-14" ultralight, 68/3k crossfire fiber wrap tank
-chrome and red unimount
I added the iframe ($100), NDZ stubby white bolt ($20), Rip Valve ( $35 gogo ebay! new), Slic Shot ram shaft ($16 new), NDZ midweight hammer ($15 new), (NDZ ball dentents $20), Then some cosmetic stuff that i wanted like Custom red carbon fiber grips ($35)... But on completely reworking my gun i spend $206 (all prices included shipping and that doesn't include the cosmetic stuff)
I felt pretty good about that. And as for my gun being tall, I have the Halo no rise on it already with the reloader B which should be fast enough. I have it on its highest setting which is 22bps + which will be fine. A board upgrade is possible for that though.
Now i have to get it all setup and running perfect. I can't wait to put this all together and check out the new look of my baby.
Needless to say I'm glad I stayed with my impy
