painting a shocker

ok i have an '06 sft shocker.. i want it dark red but im in college in ontario and A) dont know of any place that would anno it (iv looked) and B) probably cant afford it..

so would it be possible to spraypaint it (broken down of course, without reg barrel and internals) and would this give it a decent looking finish or would it look like crap?? i would be clearcoating it afterward and would not be painting the inside..

if anyones tried this on ANY gun please let me know what you did and how it turned out (pics would be cool as well)
