No advice to give or anything to say since I KNOW you've learned your lesson and all the advise a person can pull from this they should already know...
I hope things turn out well for you, even if it takes a little time <3
(oh and when you tell people you got shot with a paintball gun, try save the sports integrity a litttttttle bit hehe)

Yes I know you haven't been , but if we had continued we might have started a flame war. They start in silly ways many times.

As do I, off that subject, easyer said then done when you have a huge red mark above your eye. It should be possable though just stating something alone the lines of " Other sports have injurys" should do the trick.

SHOULD is the key word. But I imagine if you take a survey of all the players on pbr, less than 10% wear their mask everytime they air (and/or test fire) their gun.
and don't worry, I made sure to stress the rarity of my mistake to everyone I had to tell. I also made sure they knew it wasn't during an actual day of play (since I was actually just testing/tweaking it).
-------
To zofarr & 98c: Yeah, this is definitely not a light situation, but part of me can't help but laugh. It was a really stupid, HIGHLY AVOIDABLE mistake. It always seems that the 1 time you don't double check something is the time something goes wrong. I already kinda look back and laugh on it. Yeah, it hurts, and kinda stinks, but there's nothing else to do but look, learn, and laugh (and pass the message on).
I really can't complain about getting an eye messed up doing something I like to do (well, partially related to something I like to do), when there are many other ppl in the world having worse situations that they didn't put themselves in ...
EDIT: and the fact I did it to myself doesn't make the sport look as bad atleast I hope it doesn't...

yeah, the way I look at it. Paintball probably has the lower accident occurence than A LOT of sports.
There's a heck of a lot more football injuries (even when precautions are taken)--and a lot of those are lifelong injuries.
Heck, if you look up the stats on basketweaving injuries, I bet they outnumber paintball injuries on some years...
But anyways, the topic of this thread is primarily on being safe, and making sure your mind (and/or eye, in my case) is on safety. I appreciate all your concern, and with a little time, I'm sure I will recover well.

I've been shot walking off the field before. Last, a guy was holding his ion, w/o a barrel cover on it, walking along side me. Since we were still on the field, he didn't need to have it on, but anyway, his gun went off, and I got shot in the shoulder. Of course, we all had masks on, I made sure of that, but still, it shows that just because the game is over, doesn't mean it's safe to disregard safety
Meh, that sucks bro. I'll definitely have to start wearing my mask when I test fire my gun from now on.
I vote this to be a sticky, as a reminder of the importance of safety.

Definately lucky on that one. Like you said, a half inch lower and you wouldn't have an eye. I think people should print your photo out and hang it up at fields, because there is always somebody that takes off their mask to screw with it and the refs have to yell at them.
Still, wow... you're one lucky guy. I bet that felt like getting smacked with a 2x4 in the eye socket. Hope it all goes good.

yeah, a 2x4 might be an understatement. But yeah, I definitely know it could've been worse.
 = bad

Wow, that sucks. I hope you get better. I would imagine that once the blood clears out of your eye you will be able to see better, but I'm no doctor. At least, I'm not a doctor yet.

Me and my friend were hanging out at an NEPL tournament before the summer, and paintballs were bouncing off the air bunkers, and flying over the nets and such (not uncommon, I know). Well, me and my friend were under the food tent, which was a good 75 feet away from the closest field, when all of a sudden my friend yells out, and I feel something hit my foot.
One of the balls that had bounced off one of the air bunkers hit him right under the eye, and then fell on my foot and broke. Yeah, so I've seriously considered wearing my mask on and off the field now.
