Angel 05 Speed or Proto Matrix
Which of the two would do good for a backman like me? I've actually held both of these guns and both I seem to really like. But which performs overall better?

Both are now outdated so I would go with PM6 or 06 speed. It really comes down to feel so you should shoot them around. I absolutely love the feel of protos but I've never shot an 05/06 speed (same frame) so i couldn't help you.

id say the speed, its more efficient, the triggers are unbelievable and so easy to adjust. Plus overall feel and sturdiness i think is better over matrix's. Dm3 was a good gun, anything after i think is junk. I hate all of dyes new crap.
angels dont need any upgrades, except maybe barrel kit. Matrix's need parts for efficiency, 90% of matrix owners buy new boards for them, usually new reg since hyper is junk.
and angel is good lookin as to where proto is fugly. IMO

WTF are you smoking? DM4's and DM5's (and of course the 6), pwn the dm3, hard.
And Protos are sexy. Angels...are....meh. Not as good as a newer Dye-made gun.

Just because they are last years model doesnt mean they arent excellent markers, especially with the 06 ones lowering the price.
Id recommend the 05 proto

angel i think performs better outta the box, and definatly doesnt need ups, and have better efficiency.
I think the dm3 was a great marker. Then dye screwed me over. And they became fuglier and fuglier, and needed more and more ups. I dont see spending 1300 on a gun, then putting another couple hundred into it, to get top performance.

i agree with xtremesniper, the matrix is where its at. probably the best shooting gun ive shot. i like angels, however the only models i would buy are the 06 or the a4 flys. thats just me though. i wouldnt say protos are outdated anymore than a 05 speed is. if anything 05 is more outdated. leyts see, 06 came out, and tehn about a billon types of private label G7s. hmmm, matrixs, pm6 and dm6....all have same internals pretty much. the only things that were changes were the trigger frames and millnig and features like baords and feed necks and crap. so pretty much they work all teh same. between teh 05 speed and 06/G7 the newer ones were modified a lot inside.

i think the proto will be a little less efficient, but it'll be a lot quieter and have less kick. and plus the lowest i've seen an 05 speed for is $750, and protos go for $650

I've used both for a few months and I have to side with the proto.
Cheaper, less "kick" (never really been an issue thouhg) and quieter, as well as rediculously comfortable.
Don't get me wrong, the angel was nice, but for the price a used proto is probably what I'd sink my cash into.

Just another little detail about the matrix's though I don't know if this is for Angels but Matrix's are real easy on paint which is a plus for me. Just my two cents.

If the choice falls between the two 05 versions of the guns I'll go with the Angel. But if I have the choice of getting either of the 2k6 versions should I go with the Matrix or with the Angel?

Well the two guns are very different in terms of feel. The trix will be lighter and have less kick for sure. I also perfer the general feel of the matrix compared to the Angel. I found the angel triggers were very heavy and had an akward pull. Also they seemed back heavy to me. That being said, the Proto (at least the 05) is larger. Out of the box i would assume the Angel would have a better performance. The biggest knock down on the trix would be air effiacincy, yet with a tape mod you could probably bring that up somewhat. It really comes down to what YOU want to play with. We can only tell you our oppinion and the specs of the markers. As for the 06, once again i have similiar beefs with the angel. Yet i havnt got a chance to mess with the PM6 i would assume that it has a similar feel and is just generally lighter. Also there are some awsome up's for it, such as the UL frame. Its really up to you.

06 speed is amazing. being a backman myself, i have had to look for a new gun recently. i had an 06 speed for a very little bit, and i loved it, but i sent it back when i saw i could get an 05 ego or an 06 cyborg for the same price.

Are the PM6s more efficient on air than the PM5s?

Actually, their bolt pressure is much lower, so I'd guess that it is higher. The bolt is also supposed to be HE, but it may just be a marketing scheme.
It is more efficent, though.
