It's a hard knock life, for me....
Enter the singing Dr. Evil, with Mini Me-the friendly, fun-loving folks at North Georgia's Low Country Paintball. Dr. Evil (Billy Smith) and Paula Smith are the owners and operators of North Georgia's Low Country Paintball and the LCP Scenario Games. Mini Me (Bubba) is the young'un.
Billy Smith runs the Free Finale annually. It's a special event in mid-December. It's so special among scenario players that Billy's going to run it again!
The idea behind the Free Finale is to support the players who support Low Country Paintball all year long. The game offered no entry fee, and very low paint prices for quality paint.
In 2004, the Free Finale drew more than 500 gamers. In 2005, initially only the first 500 were free entries, and after that the entry was to be $50 per player. Registration filled up within a day of going live on Billy's Web site. Just three weeks before the event Billy added 150 more free entries, and those filled in less than 20 minutes. A final player count topped 800.
What few people realize is how much work Billy and his staff put into their "free" game. Planning for the next year's event begins even before the current event is over. For 2005, work started in 2004 to rebuild bridges suffering after a summer storm and to add new airball bunkers. Vendors had to be contacted and booked. The paint supplier agreed to bring a semi-trailer full of fresh paint. Low Country Paintball is an FPO (field paint only) field.
A little insight into what makes Billy tick. He will help any player who asks. When Tim "Buddha" Roberts was diagnosed with cancer, Bill ran auctions to help Buddha's family offset some of the huge medical bills.
Low Country Paintball is owned and operated by Billy and Paula Smith, and has been in business for about seven years. It's located in Ludowici, Georgia, on 63 acres. Rental markers include Kingman Spyders, Tippmanns, and Draguns. Fills available include CO2 and HPA/nitrogen. LCP is insured by the American Paintball League.
While Billy strolls around on stage with Mini Me (Bubba) at his side, he's always looking for ways to improve his operation. Much serious work goes into setting up game fields, and the life of a paintball field operator is very demanding. When you play at Low Country Paintball, make it a point to stop by the pro shop, introduce yourself, and say, "Thank you" to Billy and his staff. Without the individual work of many, the good games wouldn't be possible.
Mission Statement We at Low Country Paintball strive to bring each and every player, from the novice to the pro, a very unique and enjoyable paintball experience. We have worked diligently to provide a variety of fields while still keeping a very modest price range for playing. It is our goal to provide the best in tournament play and great events for the scenario/rec player such as the Wayne Dollack Role Playing Scenario events (Attack On Navarone, Operation High Tide and SEALORDS). We have had Millennium Paintball and the Original NOCER Company put on Scenario games. We mainly now operate under LCP Scenario Games as our chief scenario promoter.
