The Ronin Gear Katana Adjustable Bore Barrel System is the most sophisticated paintball delivery system ever designed! The Katana's most impressive feature is its unique, patented 'twist & click' sizing system, which allows you to instantly change the size of the bore, without any disassembly whatsoever! No more changing sleeves, inserts, or barrel backs! The Bore-sizing system works by using a patented collapsible inner sleeve with 5 external settings for optimal ball to barrel fit. Bore settings are set at .676, .680, .684, .688, and .692. Extensive tests have proven that the key to achieving the best possible accuracy in a paintball marker is by matching the ball to barrel fit. To identify the best setting for your paintballs, shoot your marker on each setting, and use the one that performs the best. By 'dialing in' your barrel, you'll not only reduce your ball breakage, you'll also maximize your range, accuracy and efficiency! Each 13 inch Katana Barrel also comes with an optional (removable) tournament-legal locking device to prevent the user from twisting the collar, and raising or dropping muzzle velocity during play. Katana Barrels also feature progressive porting for silent operation, and balanced gas distribution behind the ball. Finally, Katana Barrels are straight rifled to prevent unwanted, non-linear ball spin. They are constructed entirely from top-quality Aircraft Aluminum and Stainless Steel, and are built in the USA.
Product Availability
The Ronin Gear Katana Adjustable Bore Barrel is older, so while it may be available used and in a few cases new, it is not commonly available anymore.

anything that costs over $40 a case
Strengths: The porting on this barrel is straight and the jury is still out on whether that's better or not. But barrels can have too much porting or too little. This one has enough to suppress sound, while having few enough to conserve on gas, especially for LP systems. ADJUSTABLE BORE SIZE! No changing anything except the size. One piece of equipment. So you don't have to worry about buying other barrels/systems, and you can use those small winter balls now! Yay! Besides that, it's just plain accurate. I haven't had one break on me, so I don't know how easy/hard the barrel is to clean, but it doesn't seem like it'd be too difficult. Water works wonders on everything in paintball! And it's black. Some may see that as a bad thing, but to me, that's the only color I care about. And it's also not flamboyant. I want a setup that's functionally the best yet practical. Practical in price and style. This product has conformed to all of the criteria and wants I could ask for in a piece of equipment.
Weaknesses: Seeing your enemy cry is funny at first, but when nobody wants to play against you anymore, is paintball really that fun? Vendettas also aren't so funny when they're all with you. Tip: bring disguises.
Conclusion: Only buy this product if you'd like to have the epitomy of functionality melded with practical pricing. Get it here for $85

Anything but brass eagle
Strengths: Adjustable bore, quiet, accurate as hell, easy to clean, relatively cheap.
Weaknesses: Paint job is cheap.
Review: Not much to say. This barrel does exactly what it says. Best part about it is you can adjust the bore diameter during a game. But you probably shouldn't if you sized it right before the game started.
You will easily notice the difference and worth it's price compared to a freak kit.
Conclusion: It's a must have! You don't have to carry a case of extra barrels and you don't have to worry about damaging it because it a rugged two piece design.

nothing as good as this one
Marker Setup: m3 black dragun sniper with stone cold 2 20 inch barrel, 12 volt hopper, 3800 psi nitro tank

anything but cheap zap and viewloader
Strengths: its the best barrel i have ever shot i mean you can shoot differnt types of paint since you can adjust it it doesnt matter if you use small or large bore paint.....they all work great. the barrel also shoots even straighter than my stone cold 2!! which is awesome
Weaknesses: nothing at all.....i just pity the people that have to play against someone with this barrel i mean the balls cruise out of there. they shoot just as fast out of it as an autococker
Conclusion: buy this barrel......i got it off e bay for 90 dollars which i think is pretty reasonable. otherwise i have seen it for 120 on other sites. buy this barrel you will be amazed at what it can do for your aim and for your distance

Stock Barrel - yuck!
Marker Setup: Tippmann Custom 98 with Expansion Chamber and 20oz tank. Dye Grip and Speedy T Cocker.
Recommended
Paintballs:
Anything at all
Strengths: This thing is really easy to use! You just put it on your gun and start shooting. Tighten up the barrel in between each shot and watch as the accuracy improves - stop tightening when you stop seeing improvement. It increased the range and accuracy on my gun by a whole lot, plus it looks awesome!
Weaknesses: The first couple times I used it, it would work it's way out of my gun. I'd be running along and I'd either hear it flopping or I'd take a shot that would be way off the mark. I'm sure some of it has to do with the Acme style thread that Tippmann uses for the 98's, but I also noticed that the barrel comes without an O-ring. Quick fix for that, go to the hardware store and get a #13 O-ring, work it down past the threads and you're in business. It shoots straight as an arrow and never loosens up on me.
The only other beef I have with it is that the little "tournament locking collar" has these super tiny hex screws that were stripped before I even bought it. I don't use that thing anyways so I guess it's no big deal.
Conclusion: It ROCKS! I've never tried the freak, but I'm pretty sure this thing is just as good. Not to mention I'm usually put together and ready to go while those guys are still dropping balls through their inserts and trying to decide what to go with. If you play at a bunch of different fields like I do and you want an adjustable barrel without a ton of hassle or money, get a Katana!

Marker Setup: Raptor Extreme w/ 12V VL hopper, custom regulator and custom 12" barrel

Paintballs:
Any and All! it is that good, I shot BE, JT old "unknowns" with zero breakage! This barrel screams with diablos or any other premiums I am sure of it!
Strengths: It is has a selectable bore diameter that is easily changed or locked down (uses a small aluminum sleeve wit 2 set screws) for the price you pay will easily outshoot a $300 custom barrel.
Weaknesses: nothing yet, othere than it is difficult to get a hold of... also you will need to take the time to test shoot balls and barrel diameters and hopefully you live in a climate that doesn't change by +or -10 deg in a hour you will be fine...even if you did a click or two and problem solved...
Conclusion: would recommend any user to purchase, very nice piece of equipment for the novice or pro. If only more vendors would carry this barrel... My buddy used mine on his spyder AMG and is getting rid of his Freak set for this!

Any premium will fly long and straight
Strengths: Very accurate
Weaknesses: Ball breaks, constantly.
Review: This would be my favorite barrel if it didn't break so many balls. I've tried just about every ball imaginable with every bore size adjustment. It makes no difference, I break a ball once out of maybe a hundred shots. I've tried this on a Tippmann A5 and a Spyder E-99, same results.
Conclusion: I'm not really sure what to say. I see everyone else has given this thing a 10. I'm currently waiting on Ronin to reply to an email I sent regarding my problems. I will adjust my rating depending on the outcome of their support.

It's been almost 2 weeks and Ronin has not responded to my email. I sent them several extra copies requesting warranty or technical information. What a disappointing company to deal with.
