Products Used:
Spyder Shutter, Spyder Flash, Spyder E99, Spyder Aggressor - The Spyder One is a basic marker compared to the others I have listed.
Marker Setup: Tippmann Custom 98 and Spyder One
Recommended
Upgrades:
Longer barrel. Other than that leave it stock.
Strengths: Durable
Cheap starter marker
Easy to clean and repair
Upgrades by the Tons
Weaknesses: Hard to find new
Tends to burn through cup valves
Screws easily loosen
Review: This is the best starter marker you could ever buy. This was my first and has lasted for over 6 years with minimal repair. Any one who reads this that wants a reliable basic marker that you can easily upgrade, skip the Brass Eagle crap at Wal-Mart and go to Ebay and find one of these. They come in Silver or Black and usually come with a hopper, elbow, barrel plug and repair kit. You should find them for about $75. If you buy it and don't like it, drop me an email and I will take it off your hands!!
Conclusion: A must for first time recreational paintballers. If your thinking of tournament play go spend $1000 on an Angel or Autococker....This isn't the gun for you. This is a basic marker that will last forever.

Strengths: Its built like a tank
After-Market friendly
Reliable

Weaknesses: Old
Cup seals tend to leak
Ball detent can chop off

Review: I have had this marker for over 10 years. I actully have a Spyder from '97" but the Spyder One is very simular. It was my second marker (and so far last marker i have bought) Haven't had much trouble out of it though. I replaced the internal o-rings once, after it set for a few years, it leaked around the bolt some. Played in near freezing temps a few weeks ago, with OLD crap brass eagle paint, and only had a few chops, and a few curve balls. I still managed to rack up some kills, and show the newbs how retro players get it done. LOL
Conclusion: If your looking at some Brass Eagle junk and wally-world, don't. Try to find one of these second-hand, or off ebay. You will be much happier with this. I'm giving this a 9, because I have had minimal problems with this marker

Upgrades:

barrel
Strengths: Cheap
easy to use and maintain
Weaknesses: A litle slow but with double trigger can be alot faster
Review: i bought this gun used off ebay- it had pain and dirt in it but i was to lazy to clean it and started shooting it and it shot GREAT!!!! didnt chop once and when i added my barrel and double trigger it was ready to go to the field with me as a back up(my main gun is an mr1 with a rocking trigger). I ended up using it at the field instead of my MR1 becouse its smaller and lighter(I STILL DIDNT CLEAN IT OR LUBE IT SINCE I GOT IT!!!). At the end of the day i cleaned it and there were 8 different colors of paint inside it and A ROCK!!! but this thing was like a tank it kept on going and keeps going on still as a great gun!
Conclusion: Highly recomended as a first gun or backup it will shoot come hell or high water (and i did shoot it under water-bat thats not the greatest idea)

Upgrades:
barrel, trigger, reg
Strengths: accuracy, easy to fire, cheap way to get into to the sport, looks good.
Weaknesses: non vertical feed, stock barrel, hand peice
Review: awsome marker to start you off. If your a rec ball player its good standard but if you do more competitive stuff change the hand peice, barrel and get a reg. But it is a very good marker to start you off. and i like the colour. But the only real bad thing about it is the non vertical feed.
Conclusion: need a new barrel and new hand peice but a part from that its an awsome marker

Marker Setup: This was my VERY first paintball gun, i purchased this gun more than 7 years ago and used it (at least as a back up) ever since, use just CO2 on it.
Recommended
Upgrades:
Probably a desent expansions chamber, or mabye a better gun :)
Strengths: Cheap, VERY CHEAP, UNBELIEVABLY easy to maintain
Weaknesses: Cheap, VERY CHEAP, good place to start though
Review: This gun is as entry lvl as you can get, save maybe if you ever purchased some of the early Brass Eagle guns. Now it is cheap, but don't let that fool you. I have had this gun forever it seems, and the ONLY thing, and i mean ONLY thing to ever go wrong with this gun was that the stock trigger, whcih is made or WAS made of plastic, broke and fell out in the middle of play, not a good thing mind you. However, kingman has pretty darn good customer service, I called them just the other day and they sent me a METAL replacement trigger at no cost and NO questions asked. This gun is SO easy to maintain and work on. Just unscrew the two bolts at the back and out comes all of the internals except the valve. Now it would need some MAJOR upgrades to be competitive with ANY higher priced marker ( the price quoted is wrong here you could probbaly find one for 50 bucks now or less). If you want to upgrade it if yu already own one, i'd just forgo upgrades and buy a NEW gun, and just use this one as a backup, or for the occasional fun DUAL wileding paintballer thing.
Conclusion: Cheap entry lvl gun, good backup, easiest maintanence of any gun i've seen. But i'd still suggest just going and purchasing a better mnore expensive gun.

Sheridan pump - Spyder is better
Typhoon - hahaha, spyder is junk next to those
Automag - see typhoon above
Marker Setup: Spyder (bought 9 years ago when there was only 1 kind)
14" Smart Parts /12" Lapco Autospirit barrels
Taso LPC (like there's any difference in those)
DYE 45 grip frame (single trigger, don't like doubles)
Hogue grips
Lapco vert. adapter
Smart Parts bottomline and gas thru stock
Quick strip kit (forget who made it)
Bob Long bolt
PMI sight rail
Vigilante/Bob Long Torpedo reg
velocity adjuster (forget who made it)
AKA Tornado valve
Madmann spring kit
polished internals and trigger job
Recommended
Upgrades:
Everything you can get your hands on
Strengths: Durablity - had mine 9 years, since when they were just "Spyders"
Weaknesses: M16 grip frame - sloppy welding on powerfeed
Review: -Bought my spyder 9 years ago, before you could even get one in Canada (at least that I could find). Still works great, was consistent out of the box. With the stock barrel it's VERY loud, that's the first upgrade you need, the barrel.
-Bought another spyder for my girlfriend about 6 months after mine, hers was a total piece of junk. That was 8 or 9 years ago, so I doubt that has any bearing on today's quality, just had to mention it.
Conclusion: A decent marker for the price. Might as well get this one over the fancy Spyders because due to peer pressure you'll just wind up replacing all the Kingmann goodies anyway, so buy the cheaper gun and spend your money on bragging rights instead. (no, that's not why I bought it)

Spyder Shutter, Spyder Compact, Spyder Plus
Marker Setup: I use a Spyder Shutter with an Elco Boo-Ya electronic grip with a Custom Products 16 in. barrel and a Ricoche 2K electronic hopper. As side-arms I use a Sheridan PGP and a PT Xtreme
Recommended
Upgrades:
Like most guns, the first upgrade you should get is the barrel, that's all I ever upgraded.
Strengths: This is a great reliable gun, I love it. It comes with a nice grip, single trigger, which I like , and rubber covers on the grip, which is also nice. It comes with an expansion chamber and bottom line, and it's sold at a reasonable price. I hardly ever broke a ball in it.
Weaknesses: they don't make them anymore, which sucks. I've been told that they just switched the name of the gun to the spyder millennium, but I'm not sure on the reliability of the source, so don't take my word on that.
Conclusion: I love this gun, if I hadn't gotten a new gun I would still use it. As it is, the gun still gets a reasonable amount of use from people that don't have their own guns that want to play with us, and by me, when I run the battery out on my shutter. I have never used a different gun. I love this gun. It is awesome. I play with my friends every week end and i always blow them away. This gun is really good compared to a lot of other guns.
Marker Setup: I used this gun since i every started playing. I just put a low pressure chamber on it and it helps a lot. I am gonna get a new barrel and an expansion chamber which will make the gun unstopable.
Recommended
Upgrades:
New barrel
Expansion Chamber
Low pressure chamber
and some other stuff
Strengths: This gun is just awesome. It is a good gun for beginners. The gun is not that expensive and you can get some good upgrades for cheap prices. I use 32 Deggres Team Colors balls and they never break and they shoot straight. I do not see any thing wrong with this gun at all.
Weaknesses: Nothing the gun is great
Conclusion: You need to buy it!!!!!!!

Spyder elite, Spyder TL, Spyder TL Plus. I haven't found a bad spyder product yet.
Marker Setup: Spyder one with 32 degrees: Venturi bolt, low presure chamber, spring kit, gel grip, 90 degree elbow, and seal kit. Cmi international expansion chamber and in line presure gauge. Benchmark custom 45 double trigger frame. Taso Winforce 16" barrel.
Recommended
Upgrades:
I would have to say Barrel and Bolt. Which is true for most any marker.
Strengths: Everything,...Very reliable, accurate
Weaknesses: I didn't like the stock barrel, bolt, or trigger frame.
Review: I have used this gun in almost every paintball setting its lightweight, accurate, dependable, and affordable. I haven't had any problems with this gun at all. I would recomend it to anyone who is just looking to start the sport, looking for a backup marker, to the tournement player. This marker does what the high dollars marker do. I have friends that have VERY expensive markers, I don't think that listing the name are neccisary, and my little ol' Spyder one will put one ball after another in a 3 inch square at 40 yards effortlessly, no matter how fast I pull the trigger. Thats hard to beat at any price.
Conclusion: This is a great product, I will say this if you are looking for a gun to customise and make your very own, this is it. Also it is great just straight out of the box. I spent alot of money on mine doing upgrades about 150 but I didn't have much in the gun to start with. Still if your not wanting to spend time and money on all the upgrades look at a TL they are a great part of the Spyder family as well, and come well upgraded right out of the box.

i have used this gun and an upped e-99 avant.the accuracy on this kicks the avants butt.
Marker Setup: i have a stock viewloader hopper and co2, but i have a smarts parts proggressive barrel on it.
Recommended
Upgrades:
a must for this gun is definetly a new barrel, after that there really is no need for anything else!
Strengths: slow yet accurate, powerful and long lasting VERY DURABLE!
Weaknesses: This marker is slow and is(not at all) gas effecient
Review: LIKE I SAID VVEERRRYYY DURABLE!!! this marker will last you a long time and would make a gggrreeaatttt backup!! bolts and springs inside are nice and durable except the slight need of new springs for winter. Its light and built well for an old gun. I will warn you that this gun has the most vast velocity spread, you wont beleive it when your at the chrono!
Conclusion: overall great gun, a little old, if your looking for a fast gun this is NOT the gun for you! if your looking for a durable, cheap, light, and accurate gun this IS the gun for you
