This mod involves the carrier again but from a different aspect. This time the bolt link comes into play. Mod 5 is the simplest by far, but offers several great benefits. Notice the set-screw in the carrier. This mod is designed to stabilize the bolt link.
The need for this mod can be best shown by the following pictures. The first two pictures are of the stainless steel link and the stock link pins. Both links dip down or sag as I call it when the carrier moves forward into the firing position.
This sagging causes the link pin wobble out the hole in your bolt; making it sloppy. If you are using a delrin bolt this is very important. The real damage comes into play when the carrier moves back to latch the hammer. The link pin snaps back up into position. This snapping causes a sharp "tink" sound and wears into the upper and lower body halves. Notice the wear on the bodies. |
