The Trinity Paintball AK-47 Magazine 6-Stage Expansion Chamber is older, so while it may be available used and in a few cases new, it is not commonly available anymore.
I had a chance to use the AK-47 expansion chamber for the first time today. Here is my review.
Out of the package the expansion chamber came with a 45 degree elbow and very generic instructions. An aditional hose and 90 degree elbow were needed. I got an 8 inch hose and it really needs a 6 inch hose for the a-5. It works, except instead of a straight run, it bows downward.
Installing was fairly straight forward even with the very vauge directions. This expansion chamber will work with having a dual trigger installed, as there is a notch in the back of it to allow for the proper clearance. This was a very thoughtful adn needed feature. Remove the stock hose from the tombstone and the bottomline. Removed the 90 degree elbow from the bottom line adapter. Install the new 90 degree elbow (unless the hose you buy has a flared end in that case the existing elbow will work.) Install the hose but do not fully tighten it. Attach the expansion chamebr to the tombstone and then install the tombstone and chamber into the gun. Adjust the alignment of the chamber and tighten the set screw. then tighten the hose fittings.
I used the expansion chamber today in about 70 degree temperatures. I would crono with a freshly filled bottle and my shots were very consistant 273, 276, 275. After playing one game and the bottle stabilized, I was still shooting nearly the same speeds with exceptional consistancy. I used the auto responce mode and got into some very long drawn out firefights throwing alot of paint. The tank chilled, but the expansion chamber never did. The gun shot very consistantly and with no problems.
Overall impression was very wonderul for this product. It helped maintain good consistancy even under adverse conditions. The cost was only $20 than other standard expansion chambers. It adds alot of style to the gun, and the front grip can still be used when slid all the way forward.
I give this item a 9 of 10 simply because of not having used other comparable expansion chambers recently.
Strong Durable Finish
Definitely long lasting.
REQUIRES CLEANING (see review)
Pricy ($63 for me)
Well, i recently bought a AGD Minimag and do the the machine pistol like look that the minimag has, i thought it would look awesome with the Ak 47 xchamber, giving me the quazi - compact machine gun look.
I took a while to decide, as this expansion chamber was indeed expensive. $63 ($7 shipping for me) for a total of $70, just for an expansion chamber. Many other upgrades i could have gotten instead, but i chose this one for now.
Well i bought it and i finally got it out of the package. The finish is very durable, it's not one of those type of finishes you can scratch easily unless you did it on purpose.
The thing i DIDNT like was that i had to clean it out first before i even got to use it. I was inspecting it and i saw metal shavings outside of the gun. I dont always clean everything before i use it, especially when i payed $63 for the damn thing. Well, i took it apart anyway (extremely easy diassembly, they give you the allen wrench that you need to maintain it with and spare o-rings for the chamber itself) Low and behold, metal shavings everywhere, a problem that would cost me problems for the internals in my whole gun. I made sure every last shaving was gone, this could cause hell for my gun.
The weight of it makes it slightly awkward. It's actually quite heavy for an expansion chamber. I dont have the exact weight, but if i dropped it on my bare foot, it would hurt, so it weighs something. My gun was built back heavy (the regulator valve on a minimag is very heavy, but since it's back heavy, the gun benefits from the weight of it, balancing it out) Adding the expansion chamber distorted the balance a little, but it was still fine.
The addition of it on a lighter gun might be a problem, as it would make it front heavy and uncomfortable to carry. I would recommend this upgrade on the "durable" guns like tippmanns, as they are rough and tough type of guns in general (the minimag is a rough gun, you can wash it with a bucket of water *serious, the manual says you can do that*)
Well after that was done and over with, i slapped it on and it's been on my gun ever since. I havent had a chance to field test it yet, but expansion chambers all function the same, they give room for the CO2 to expand.
Just remeber you might need a stainless steel hose and possibiliy a different elbow for the gasline (they give you a 45 degree elbow, but it bent my hose in a awkward position and over time, could possilbily stress it out, so i decided to use the 90 degree elbow i had lying about, it fit the gun perfectly)
If you have a lot of money or love the scenario look, this is a good product. If you just need an expansion chamber, look away, this thing could buy you a good barrel, normal expansion chamber and possilbily you would still have money for spare parts for your gun. Pricey is the point, if you are poor, get the essentials first (barrel, Nitro, drop forwards etc, this thing can wait.)
Expensive but durable, it probably will pay for itself over time as long as you play a few years and keep using C02. Ill give it an 8 do to price and the fact i paid that much and still had to clean it out before i used it.
I have never had my gun freeze up, ever. Added around 100 shots per co2.
A little difficult to install, but easy to figure out, no worries.
The only problem i had with this gun was at installation. The only reason being that I have a double finger trigger and its a bit hard to get by that. All in all, a great add on. Definitely kept me consistent, and works just as great if not better than any normal shaped chambers. Plus you get the added bonus of it looking like an ak-47 mag. Definitely the ideal for form and function.
If your looking to mod your gun, and want something that looks great, adds intimidation, and backs it up then this is the chamber for you.
-bt 47 apex barrel
-trinity ak 47 exp. chamber kit
-68/4500 psi air tank
Shoots alot harder and improves accuracy, made of metal
See review below
Ok the product itself is really good, i love it, i have no problem with it and it improves my accuracy alot. The one thing I didn't like about it, was the way it came in, by that i mean the kit.
first of all there where no instructions....Ok, the expansion chamber, being one of the parts that [should] really come with instructions, because if you don't install it right, you can damage or even break ur gun, heck even a simple car stock comes with instructions, 3 step instructions but hey, they tell you how to install it.
Secondly, if you buy this product for your a-5 you will need to pay an extra 30$ or so to buy a shorter gaz line, because the stock a-5 gaz line is to long and it doesn't fit with the expansion chamber ((important, do not try to make the stock a-5 gaz line fit the trinity expansion chamber, it doesn't fit and you will only break your gun)).
Then thirdly, the things that came with the expansion chamber, ok I thought this was pretty funny but very dumb, they give you an allen key to ajust the expansion chamber, but when i try-ed to use the key to adjust it, the key was to small..... So whats the point in giving you a allen key that doesn't fit the part that you ordered? So my tip is to be ready with a set of small allen keys.
Then they give you a few internal o rings, so I thought ok, well this is good ill be able to fix it more times if they break, but when I opened the expansion chamber to see what was wrong ( because it was leaking co2) and its only then did i found out that some of the o rings where missing? The bottom o ring was missing, so ya.... check it out before shooting it, check see if all the o rings are in there.
So ya its a really good product when you get passed all those little obstacles, I give the product a 10 but since the package was really disappointing I give it a 9. I would recommend it, it gives you that extra boost and it looks great.
I bought this to replace a Tippmann expansion chamber I was tired of. It looks great, and gets commented on often. It does add some weight, but it doesn't throw the balance off. You will need a small tool to release the clip, since it blocks the latch, but that's not something you should be doing on the field anyway.
I'm very happy with mine. It could've been a bit cheaper, but it's made very well and I think it's just the right size.
