The well-designed Armson Pro-Dot Max Duty is a great sight for paintballers, allowing two eye sighting for quicker target acquisition, no loss of peripheral vision, and unaffected depth perception.
The anodized aluminum body, high quality internal optics make this one of the toughest, most reliable paintball sights on the market. The Armson Pro-Dot Max Duty has a birdcage body military style design that makes it virtually indestructible. The sight also features simple adjustments for windage and elevation, and does not require batteries! (Even works with vertical feeds.) |

The Armson Max Duty is the toughest sight in paintball - bar none. It is military grade stuff, very solid and tough. It is a OEG Sight - Occluded Eye Gun sight. That is, when you look through it - you can't see through it (it's occluded) you are required to keep both eyes open when firing a gun with the sight on it. You focus on the target down range with both eyes open and then you put the dot on target and pull the trigger as fast as you can. If you are looking to take time to aim before you fire - this is NOT the sight for you. This sight is designed for close quarters / snap shooting - and it excels at that. It is not for finite accuracy, or taking your time to aim and hit a target. It is See-Raise gun and impose dot on target-Fire...and do it as quick as you can.
I had some difficulty learning to use the Armson Max Duty as the use of it requires you to "unlearn" most everything anyone with shooting experience has learned over a life time. You do not "take aim" with this sight. You do not aim carefully with this sight. You DO look at your target down range with both eyes open, focus on it with both eyes open and then raise the sight into your field of vision and as soon as you see that red dot superimposed on the target - you IMMEDIETLY pull the trigger. You cannot hesitate with this sight, you can't take careful aim with it either as that will throw your shots off every time.
I initially sighted in at the 15 meter recommendation that the manufacturer suggests. I had a lot of difficulty learning to "let go" and shoot on impulse with the sight - I kept trying to "aim" with it as you would with an optical scope (just with both eyes open) and that just screwed me up. Eventually I got in the habit of See-Sight Dot-Fire Immediately and I started to actually hit what I was wanting to hit.
For me, the most effective range for this sight is about 20-25 meters. You can reasonable\y expect to hit a target the size of a coffee can reliably with the sight at that distance - which is more than adequate for paintball in my books. The sight is expensive, around $90.00 US but it is exceedingly well built and acceptably accurate if you use the sight as it is intended. |

I was very frustrated with the Armson sight at first. It took a lot of getting used to in order to use it effectively - not because the sight is unusually complicated but because it is so simple to use that your old shooting habits can cause you some problems in trying to learn how to shoot the sight. It is NOT a scope, shoots nothing like an optical scope - it is the opposite actually. The object with this sight is to see the target with both eyes open, raise the gun, plant the red dot on the target and fire immediately as possible - you want to go faster - not take time to aim. If you hesitate, if you try to "aim" with the thing - you'll screw yourself up every time. Think point and shoot, think speed, and go with instinct to pull the trigger asap with this sight zeroed in and you should hit what you are wanting to in that 20-25 meter range.
It is a nice sight, very tough and well made. Furthermore simply because of the way you are FORCED to use this sight - it will improve your snap shooting ability and train your muscle memory for proper firing technique with whatever gun you mount it on. It can be a little frustrating to learn how to use it (for me it was) but the benefits outweigh the detriments it may have.
I gave this product a score of 10 predicated on the quality of construction, innate toughness of the product and the fact that the product delivers on what it is supposed to be and do. The only downside of this product aside from learning how to use it properly was that I did have to do some filing on the rail clamps - they were a little large for my 3/8" dovetail on my Phantom and it caused the sight to lean very slightly to the right - after the filing however the sight fits beautifully. I would recommend this sight to others, I would also in the same breath admonish them to be very patient with learning how to shoot it - and think faster not "take aim". |

I have used this sight for over a whole year now and I can say that it is absolutely the best sight I have ever used. I have taken numerous paintballs directly into the sight (I'm talking over 20) and it still works just like the day I bought it. I've dropped it, hit it against trees while running, you cannot hurt this thing. Just wipe the paint out of the spots where the sun comes in and it will work great.
Sighting this in took less than 20 minutes. One knob for Vertical Adjustment, one for Horizontal. You dont even need a screwdriver or any tools to adjust them, just a simple turn. Accuracy is dead on (but then again I guess it would also depend on the gun). I put the dot on my target and know he is going to the Dead Box lol And since you have to have both eyes open to use it, you still have your peripheral vision while shooting (No Tunnel Vision). This has saved my butt quite a few times.
THE GOOD:
-No battery changes ever again. No running out of batteries in the middle of a game.
-As stated, it cannot be harmed lol
-Very Very Small
-Super Easy to Sight In
-You still have your peripherial vision while using it
THE BAD:
-I have used it in a few games towards dusk, while the dots brightness does decrease, it has never gotten bad enough that I cannot use it, unless it is pitch black outside. (Heck if you wanted to, I rigged up a small LED light to a AAA battery and strapped it under my raised rail to power it during the Low Light/Night, works like a dream). Also I cannot find a rail attachment that allows for Dovetail to Weaver attachments so I could use it on a Weaver rail. But I am sure there is one out there. If someone knows of one, please inform me.

Well i got this sight for X-mas. However, i only got to test it out for a bit because up hear in canada, it gets too cold to play.
Construction:
The sight is very well made and put together. The casing is aluminum. The actual red dot effect is produced via an acrylic rod that is encased with what appears to be impact resistant plastic. The light enters the front and sides and lights up the rod giving the user an appearance of a red dot. Armson does make some sight with tritium i beleive. however, most contries (at least canada anyway) are not allowed to import it because it is midly radioactive (or something along those lines). Furthermore, i believe tritium is very expensive. Anyway, the reason why i bought this sight was so i can have that first shot accuracy and be able to take a paintball head on and not have it break. Special Ops paintball conducted a test and found this to be the most durable sight. after it takes a hit, simply wipe it off and its good to go! (i will update it once this actually happens to me)

Size:
The total length of the sight is around 4" (i will give exact measurments when i update this review) and is made to fit to a 3/8" weaver rail via two attachment screws that tighten metal clamps. It is the same setup as the BT fixed sight rail system. This sight fits perfectly on the BT fixed sight rail as well as the 45* mount on the Lapco offset sight mount.

Ease of Use:
While i have yet to zero it in. It is very easy to do. the tuning dials are locked in place with two set screws. simply looses these and dial in your sight. tighten the screw when you are done to prevent the dials from being accidentally adjusted. What makes this sight also very versatile is that is can be used with verticle feeds if needed be. TO actually use this sight 9it is similar to the Dye Izon this way), just bring your marker to bear, aquire the red dot, then look at your target. you should then see your target with a red dot on it and sometimes the outline of the sight depending on your depth perception (it is hard to explain, so im sorry).
EDIT (Sun. April 15, 2007):
I just got to play a game with my sight yesterday. I even zeroed it in. It was very easy to do as i expected. And once i did so, i had deadly accuracy. I think i still have to fine tune it a bit, but as of now, i can hit pretty much wherever you want me to, give or take a few inches. it is a great sight and i highly recommend it to anyone!

Solar-Powered:
This is both a strength and a weakness. It is a strenth because the lack of betteries makes this a hassle free sight. however, dont go play any night or 24 hour games with this, because even though it can work in low light level environments, it cannot be used when there is no light present. In terms of low light levels, i have been able to aquire the dot inside my house during a winter overcast at around 5:00pm. so it is very good at what it does.

A very good sight. i recommed it to anyone. I like to snipe, so this will give me the accuracy i need via the red dot, but its fast target aquisistion makes it perfect for medium engagements. rest assured, i will update this review once i get more play time with it. |
