Don't wear them in public without pants over the top, but they definitely help take the sting off. Its not armor plating, so your still going to feel the ground/the shot/the bunker, but it wont be nearly as bad.
Pretty good nut protection when combined with a good pair of pants. Those hits will still suck, but you'll still be able to reproduce afterward.
They also are very light weight and cool in the summer.

I purchased these shorts because I got tired of wearing my cup. Cups are annoying. I tried them on and immediately noticed that the padding is thin around that area. Also it doesn't protect the entire jewel area! I pulled them up all the way so that my hips are protected and noticed my stuff hangs from the bottom unprotected (not cool). Now I haven't played with them yet so I don't know if that is a huge factor but then again I'm not trying to find out. I will use my cup along with these shorts. Dye really needs to think about crotch protection because it is us men who will make little boys and introduce them to paintball. A world of sterile men means out of business for Dye lol.
On a brighter note, I like the fact that they are tight because baggy shorts under my pants are annoying. It feels like I'm not wearing anything under my pants.
Conclusion:
These shorts are okay. I have the Dye C8 pants so I will use the shorts in conjunction with the pants. This way I will have double protection for the crotch. Shop around before you dish out the dough for these shorts.

I got these cause my 05 Dye Slide Shorts were starting to be a little tight. I got a size XL and they still seemed to be a tight fit. Im 6'2 and 200lbs and i consider myself average bordering on skinny so it seems odd to me that the XL fit tight still. They are fairly comfy and have nice hip padding but i was very disappointed in the cup padding its not removable and seemed very thin to me. Also they are fairly expensive.
Conclusion:
If you like Dye products and want some good slide shorts these work.
