Is the G3 SE worth the extra $100 over the original G3? Check the Dangerous Power forum and see how many times that question is posed.
The answer is: It depends.
The SE builds upon the already highly regarded and well reviewed G3. It includes a new two piece barrel, the upgraded board, the better trigger, replacement regulator part, and a lifetime warranty. Also the SE comes in some great looking "extremely limited production" colors. Unlike the regular edition guns, these are hand polished and the parts are milled, not cast.
If you buy a regular G3 and buy the stock replacement board, the replacement trigger, and the "free with shipping" regulator part, you're looking at about $75. Add in a new barrel and you're well over $100. All said and done you're going to have a regular G3 for slightly more than the sexier, polished, lifetime warranteed SE. In this instance, I'd say go with the SE.
I like how I really don't have to upgrade anything right out of the box. From what I've read, this isn't the case with most guns.
Of course, if you're going to buy a magnetic trigger and the upgraded board or a 3rd party one, and a 3rd party barrel then you're replacing all the pieces that come with the SE and the only advantages you're left with are the milled pieces, the lifetime warranty, and the sexy polished body.
At that point it's probably not worth the extra $100.
I can't comment on the quality of the barrel, from other reviews I've read, it's better than the already decent original barrel. I'm sure most people at some point will upgrade to their favorite 3rd party barrel. I think the SE barrels look great on the SE gun and I don't intend on replacing it until I find the need.
Other things that come with the SE include a nicer full allen wrench kit with holder vs the bag of allen wrenches provided in the regular edition. The manual is still the sucky poster manual. It's still poorly proof read and seems like it was translated from another language. Download the pdf for the replacement stock board if you want to actually program your board.
My friend got the regular G3 and has some issues with the power button. I've had no issues with the SE. Yes, it does take some pressing but it's perfectly fine and takes enough effort so you know you won't accidentally turn off the gun mid-game. Programming, once you get the hang of it, is simple albeit tedious when you need to press the trigger 25 times to get the gun up to full speed. But it's great not having to remove the grip to make adjustments to the gun.
Also, this still doesn't come with the PMD, a $55 pressure monitoring device that replaces the back cap. I think this is invaluable because unless you chrono right out of the box, you have no idea what your pressure is and from what I've read you can damage the gun if you shoot too hot. Secondly, if you do chrono and shoot too slow, it makes it easier to adjust based on how much psi you're feeding your gun. It just makes it easier to understand what your gun is doing if you have a problem (like your macro line isn't in all the way and your gun isn't even pressurizing).
Additionally, the GA 68/45 with the micro myth reg doesn't quite fit. I've heard of other G3 owners that have a problem where the gauge scratches the back of the grip. In my case, the raps lever lands right on the gauge by maybe a millimeter or two so it won't close flush into the ASA. This is not a problem since it pressurizes without issue but it could catch on something and flip the gun off. One person suggested putting an o-ring inside the ASA. I'll try that out and see if it works. If the gauge was hitting the back of my gun I could move the ASA back slightly and that would fix the problem.
So, is the SE worth $100 over the regular edition? It depends on if you're going to upgrade everything with 3rd party parts right out of the box. If you are, it's not. If you want a gun you can assemble and shoot right out of the box without needing to sink more money into to get it to perform right, then yes, the $399 SE is definitely worth it over the $299 regular edition. But hey, get the regular edition anyway, I want to have the sexiest G3 on the field
Conclusion:
Read the reviews on the G3 and you'll see why I decided to buy a G3. Light weight, fast, accurate with stock setup, no breaks. I just want a gun that works and I don't need to upgrade immediately. The trigger, the board, the barrel, the reg seat, all of these would be upgraded over time. With the SE the upgrades are already made for you. The milled parts make the gun more reliable and it comes with a life time warranty to go with it. If you want the basic gun and will replace everything with 3rd party parts then there's really no point in going with the SE. But if you want a gun that you don't need to upgrade out of the box, then get the SE.

Review:
When I got this, the first thing I noticed was how light it was, (a little lighter than my friends mini). I also noticed how shiny and nicely made it was. The stock grips are very good, and the barrel is extremely good for a stock one. The RAPS is so cool, you can turn the air on and off by fliping the lever, which comes in handy. When I took it apart to examine the insides, I was amazed at how simple it was, just unscrew the back cap, and take out the bolt. Its that easy. The trigger is very nice, almost no side to side movement. The board has quite a few settings, and is soooo easy to program. You dont need to take off the grips, it is adjusted by trigger pulls. Overall great gun!
If you are looking at this and debating between this or a mini, (like i was), look no further, buy it now, (cause they are special editions and are selling fast) you wont regret it.
Conclusion:
Buy this gun before they are gone!!!!! ITS INSANE!!!

Review:
I bought this gun as a backup to my EGO SL74. Perfect gun for all around use. What I really like about the gun is how lightweight it is. Its almost as light as my EGO SL74. The polished body looks awesome. I always have people ask me what gun it is and how great it looks. Although its not as efficient as my EGO, its very consistent.
Maintenance:
With the TechT bolt engine, you can basically say you have a tool-less free maintenance gun. With the TechT bolt engine, you can take out the bolt's back cap by hand. Lube the 3 bolt O-rings, back cap O-ring, and you're finished with maintenance on the bolt. The regulator doesn't require tools to take apart either. Just unscrew the regulator, take out the piston, lube the O-rings and you're done. All of this can be done by hand. Simple simple simple maintenance. I don't know of any other gun (besides maybe the Lux and the 09 Impulse) where you don't need tools to do maintenance on the gun.
If you don't have the TechT bolt engine, all you need to do is unscrew the backcap with an allen key. Still, very simple.
The G3 shoots straight, accurate, and feels great in my hands. Not as efficient as other guns, but for the price, its hard to beat. For $300 ($399 for the SE) brand new, you get an awesome gun right out of the box. The SE has an upgraded board, trigger and 2 piece barrel. Is it worth it to buy the SE? If you don't plan on doing anymore upgrades, yes. In my opinion, buy the regular G3, get the color you want, and do the upgrades on your own. I would buy Ape board and CP trigger, or get the 7th element board and trigger combo from ANSgear for 70 bucks. With the extra 30 you just saved, buy a cheap CP 2 piece barrel OR, use it on paint, OR use that 30 and spend an extra 40 to buy the TechT bolt engine, OR save up more money to buy a nice quality barrel kit. The 2 piece barrel from the SE is basically useless considering you can't buy backs for it.
Conclusion:
My recommendation is to buy one. If you're looking for a low price gun with potential for really awesome upgrades, get the G3. Shoots fast, accurate, CONSISTENT out of the box, CHEAP, etc.

Reg - After about 5 cases through this, it is shooting around +/- 4.
Maintenance - Very simple - very quick. Can be picky about lube so lube very lightly. dow55 on the reg / dow33 + oil combination on the bolt.
Accuracy - the stock barrel shoots nice. I usually shoot wpn's grade through it and it puts them where I want them.
Kick - very little
Efficiency - Kinda bad. Out of my 68.45 crossfire on stock board settings cept 14 dwell I get ~900 - 950. No pmd so I can't check the pressure, but my field shoots 280fps.
Durability - Nothing feels cheap. It has held together strong so far. The back hook fell off on mine during play. It is probably due to no locktite or tape on the screw. Also, my back cap commonly unscrews during play. I have solved this problem by wrapping 2-3 layers of teflon tape around the cap threads.
Board - Even though they put in the stock replacement board for the SE version, a better board would have been a better choice. It has a lot of valuable settings, but with the ever changing rules for tournaments - more adjust ability would be nice.
Trigger - felt alright, but the side to side play drove me nuts.
Conclusion:
Spoolies commonly have bad efficiency so I already expected what I am getting. They really should have replaced the trigger on this when they packaged this with the stock replacement board. It would have also been nice to include the pmd with the marker - the damn thing costs $40 to get extra. Overall, it is a fast, accurate, and consistant marker. I would still have made the decision to purchase this marker knowing what I know now.
Throw in a new trigger / board and you have a very competitive tourny marker for ~$500.
7E has a board / cp trigger deal for ~$90 which is a great deal. You could always part the trigger and get another such as the TBO if you wanted.

This gun is insanely light and simple to maintain. The trigger is very comfortable and easy to walk. Great eyes and grip. The stock barrel is quite good, pretty much ball on ball. My only complaints about this gun is that it is kind of a tight squeeze when inserting the battery into the grip, the stock screw in the center of the trigger is a little short(just go to Fastenal, I got 5 longer screws for $0.77)(this is caused the trigger being moved farther forward by the virtue board micro switch), and the flip lever ASA works great but it flips a little too easily.
Update 12/13/09:
Still working great with no real problems. However it does like to chew up the second O-ring from the front of the bolt if it isn't properly lubed. You can recognize this problem by the sound of a shot of air coming out of the solenoid with each shot accompanied by the bolt not cycling, but you may still get a few shots off.
This problem can usually be avoided by cleaning and lubing your gun after each day at the field. I recommend Hater Sauce V2.
Conclusion:
Overall a great gun, it easily makes up for its shortfalls. Which as pretty easy to fix or get used to. Would recommend it to anyone looking for a pro quality gun at a lower price tag.

The G3 is a amazing marker for the intermediate paintball player.
It's inexpensive price point gives the user a great paintball gun that has multiple tourny modes and board lock that is expected of a higher end marker.
Dangerous Power also has a great customer service system that can help you with almost any problem. There are also a great many optional accessories sold by Dangerous Power to augment your marker, such as a internal pressure gauge.
Conclusion:
I enjoy my marker very much, and recommend that any intermediate paintball player looking for a great gun for a good price to check the G3 SE out

So I got this gun about a year ago, and i was very excited when i got it out of the box. My first impressions were, this gun is light, fast and sexy. So i took it out to the field and it shot to fine. I quickly learned not to mess with the board settings. They are good as they are set. So after about a year of using it, i can form a fair review.
BARREL
The barrel is very nice, a .690 two piece barrel. It's relatively light. i have never had any problems with it
SIMPLICITY
One thing that impressed me about this gun was its simplicity of its design. There are no crazy wires, eyes, etc sticking out all over the place, like for say, an ego.
SMOOTHNESS
After shooting maybe 20 cases through it, i noticed, it was a quiet and smooth shooting gun. A practical spoolie

KICK
The kick on this gun gets pretty annoying, because it slowly unscrews the backcap, also after a long scenario, it hurts your shoulder. I would recomend getting an upgraded bolt for this
GRIP
I'm not too crazy about the grip. It's heavy, and awkward. It feels kinda like plastic, and does not feel good in the hand. I really like the eclipse grips.
Conclusion:
All in all, i really like this gun. The weaknesses are just small things, and i can live with it. The gun is light,fast,reliable,simple,and sexy. Everything you could want in a gun

I've been using this marker for awhile now and not once has it failed me. I did added on many ups to this marker so it would be a perfect gun. Spent most of my work money for just paintball lol but its really worth it. I love this gun and i love this sport.

This is a fabulous gun already. Truly flawless out of the box.
The stock trigger may be a little sloppy for some.
Review:
I've been playing woodsball for the majority of my paintball years, but this fall I am going to be playing NCPA paintball so I need a new marker. After doing some research I decided on a DP G3 and I was not disappointed.
This marker is incredible. It comes out of the box ready to go with the SE board which is capable of the new 10.5 bps rule for NCPA. It doesn't really need any upgrades, but personally I didn't like how sloppy the trigger was so I bought a new one. Also, TechT just came out with a new bolt which increases efficiency and has a tool less back cap, so I bought that as well. With or without these upgrades the G3 is fully capable of performing against many high end guns.
Out of the box, I could get a full Eggy 3 and 4 pods out of a 3k fill on my 68/4500, and that was before the thing was even broken in. Also, it comes with RAPS otherwise known as rapid air pressurization system. it's a flip ASA that makes airing up your marker a snap and is one the best ASA's on the market.
Dangerous Power has possibly the best customer service on the planet. They're the greatest.
