Review: Sly has executed a great start concept with the Pro-Merc, now they can take it to the "ver. II"! Good overall fit, I am at 6'6'' with a 48'' chest, and the Pro-Merc XXL just fits.
Unlike the Dye and Proto vests, Sly has opted not to pad below the ribcage area at all, granted this does prevent bunching up in the back under your pod pack, however your still gonna get welts on yer abdominal area! Sly got it right with underarm padding that tapers down to the waist, side coverage is totally there. And the total length of the vest is great, even with the running jumping & crawling around of a fast paced game, the Pro-Merc stays tucked in.

No sleeves, but I am among those who don't really want sleeves anyway. The arm holes are a good size too, did not bunch up in my pits during play. I would love to see the next version come out with a "mandarin" collar; I think only Dye, Proto & Eclipse attempt to cover the lower neck, but not with any pad, all four manufacturers could add an inch of pad above the "crew neck" line there.

The padding itself is excellent, a thick, quilted foam that covers much better and moves much better than a segmented pad system. It can be warmer than the cheap foams of other vests, but Sly has a great breathable mesh in all the right places, a tough material similar to Under Armour. I have actually worn it a few times under my bulletproof vest while working outside to help keep warm this winter! It was comfortable even for several hours

I play pretty rough, but the Pro-Merc is holding up great; machine wash in cold water, hang to air dry (no dryer!) several times and the color and stitching is holding up nicely.
Conclusion: A good buy for the price, the padding is probably the best on the market, Sly just needs more of it below the ribs in front and around the neck. Great length, overall great quality material and stitching. I give it an 8.5, and will be watching for the next evolution of the Pro-Merc!!
